Attic Upgrade

The 2nd floor of our home had been increasingly hot in the summer and very cold in the winter. I called Doug to see if he could evaluate the problem. He took a thorough look throughout our home and recommended an attic upgrade(repositioning the existing insulation and adding more). We have noticed a remarkable improvement. Doug and his crew were also very punctual and did a great job of cleaning up when they were finished. Very satisfied.

Insulation upgrade

the house we bought two years ago was good on the main floor but all over the place upstairs...Doug did an inspection and found bare spots in the attic, and some empty spots at the outside walls and one particularly large spot in the front of the master bedroom...he also found the bathroom exhaust fan vent was not installed properly and was not connected...He and his crew did an upgrade of the insulation and fixed our bathroom exhaust fan issue with a new vent pipe to the outside and proper ducting inside....all is nice and even, great job and neat and tidy as well...will definitely have Doug do a once through on the next house we buy

Insulation in attic

We had all out insulation upgraded in the attic . The price was good, the job was done quickly and efficiently. In fact the gentleman went out of his way to fix a few things in the attic that he didn't have to do. He did them just because he was a decent guy. We have seen a huge improvement in the temperature of the bedrooms upstairs. We would use this company again for sure

attic insulation

After purchasing our home this summer we found that no matter how low we set the air conditioner the main floor would be a great temperature and the second floor would still be hot. As the days got cooler so did our second floor. Again, no matter how warm the main floor was, the second floor was cold and we would have to turn the heat way up at night so that our new baby wasn't too cool.
After a couple of weeks we called a few places to get estimates for adding insulation to our attic. Doug came out, had a look around, and informed us that our attic actually had bare spots where there was no insulation at all. He also discovered mold on our attic hatch and another issue with our insulation blocking the soffits (or something of that nature). Anyway, he was very knowledgeable and friendly and gave us a quote. Although he wasn't not the cheapest quote (only higher by $200) he was the only person to point out the mold and include rebuilding the attic hatch in his quote. I also just got a good feeling about him and the work he would do.
Doug came the day he said he would at the time he said he would. He brought lots of drop sheets and covered all of my floors. He and his co-worker were very friendly and did a great job letting me know what they were doing as they went. They also did a quick vacuum as the left. My only complaint would be that there were, and still are, little bits of insulation stuck on my driveway, which given the wind and rain that day, I'm sure couldn't be helped.
Overall we are extremely satisfied with the work and noticed a huge difference that night! We now can turn down the heat at night and still keep the upstairs warm and cozy for our baby to sleep.

Thanks Doug!

Thank you for taking the time to write a review Lisa. As I said at your home I typically do not make any guarantee as to how much difference an upgrade will make but in your case would have been completely shocked had you not seen a large improvement immediately. Sorry for the insulation in the driveway, yes we did try to get it picked up but the rain was working against us. Thank you again, Doug

ugrade attic insulation

We thought these guys were great. The work was performed in 1 day by Doug and his crew of 1. (On time and as quoted). What stood out about Home NRG is that they spent half or more of their time on prep work, repacking the perimeter and adding Roxul insulation where required to reduce leakage before they blew in loose fill cellulouse insulation. We'd recommend anyone contemplating a similar project to compare quotes carefully as a contractor who just comes and blows insulation in over top of what is already there will be cheaper, but your result isn't likely to be nearly as good. In the end you get what you pay for, and we felt Home NRG offered good value for what they charged.

Thank you David and great advise! So many attic upgrades require more than a quick top up to truly fix the overall issues. Hopefully with reviews like yours more people will start to ask more questions of their contractors in the future. Doug

Insulation voids filled/insulation upgraded, general air sealing (building in Markham)

Home NRG Savers was very professional & they know their stuff! The fact that Doug is an expert energy advisor with extensive experience & knowledge in various aspects of homes/buildings, gave me assurance that things were going to be done right. It's hard finding knowledgeable contractors who really care about their clients these days. The quality of their work was top notch and they provide great value. I wish more people knew the benefits of air sealing in addition to upgrading attic insulation (they go hand in hand). Thanks again Doug!

Any advice to offer fellow homeowners facing a similar project?
- educate yourself (unbiased advice is best) - ask a lot of questions - compare the details in quotes (not just prices!) - consider going beyond "standard construction practices" especially when it comes to energy upgrades such as insulation & draft reduction

Supply insulation to increase to R50 and reduce air flow loss.

Initial inspection and quote was very well explained and easy suggestions were made to futher reduce air loss. Work was done as committed on time and very clean. Work crew was pleasant and worked hard to complete job on time. Very pleased with professional approach provided by Doug Clark and crew. No surprises and ensured I was fully informed at end of job. Would definitely recommend to others.

Rebuilt kitchen to current standards

Home NRG Savers professionally and quickly met our desire to have the benefit of a foam insulated wall in our kitchen.

Having dealt with multiple contractors who let us down and were wishy washy in dealing with us, it has been a delight to interact with pros who simply did exactly what they said they would do. There were some access difficulties for their vehicle to be near our space; they did not complain, they simply made the best of it.

Mom, call these guys the next time you do a reno or want to reinsulate your attic!

Insulation upgrade

Tribute to the professionalism demonstrated by Luke, Doug, and Phil.

From the first contact I had with Phil, through the subsequent e-mails sorting out details for the job, to the final work performed at our residence, my wife and I were very impressed. It was necessary for me to have some roof termination vents installed prior to the work being performed and the guidance given from Phil on this was great.

We got the vents installed and these gentlemen said they would arrive at our home to start the work between 7am and 8 am on the prescribed date - and they were early! The time estimate to perform the attic upgrade from R20 to R60 was two days.

The ceiling penetrations were foamed, the plastic rafter vents installed, and some other interior attic preparation was completed in a steady, professional, and quiet fashion. We were kept apprised of the progress, all findings of interest, and the overall condition (current insulation, wood, leaks found, etc) of the attic as the work went along. The Thermo lite cellulose insulation was blown in and increased the R value from R90 in some spots, to a minimum of R60 in others.

The air leakage test performed before and after the work performed showed a reduction of 17% air leakage.

It is very refreshing to have people come to your home to perform work and do it in such a professional, corteous and efficient manner. These people arrived when they said they would arrive, did what they said they would do (and then some), finished the work within the time frame predicted, and cleaned up after themselves.

With the recent heat wave, we have noticed a difference in keeping the house cool.

We do not have a professional company in our area to perform this type of work and to have Doug, Luke, and Phil travel all the way here was great. They certainly have made their mark in the area and we would highly recommend their work to other prospective clients.

Thank you very much for such a positive experience and your professional work ethics.
