Kitchen Renovation

Sammy was hired to strip our kitchen and install new flooring and cabinets. Due to it being a Kitchen job in a busy house, the job was to be completed between Christmas and New years. We were assured he had a crew capable of completing the project in this time. Well, at the end of January, we had cabinets installed, leaky plumbing and lots of unfinished work. We had enough and asked Sammy to not come back. To be clear, he is a great guy and I really enjoyed his company when he was here; the problem was he always had an excuse, was always elsewhere and never focused on our job. If you have a simple job requiring only a few hours, Sammy could be right for the job, but in my experience, he is not reliable for multi-day jobs. He never had a "crew" and I ended up working side by side with him for 2 days to try to get things done. He either has too much on his plate or has other issues that prevent him from being a reliable dedicated and focused handyman.

Renovation

Sam is very friendly and a fair handyman. His work is exceptional and accurate. I removed a wall and was left with a job I couldn't finish. Sam was recommended to me and he cam and assessed my job with a detailed time frame and cost. Work was completed on time and beyond my doubts.... No more HGTV for me, I will just call Sam. I would recommend to anyone who has a project to finish or finds themselves in a jam like I did.

Thank you Sammy!!!

Reno

I am a private property investor , and requiring services of contractors often , I have known Sammy for few years and have used his services in renovations, as per any renovations, there are always challenges and. Obstacles, Sammy has always worked through them to get the project completed. In due respect , no one is perfect , builders make mistakes , contractors make mistakes, it's only human. Sammy works with ethics and have not abandoned any projects , for sake of taking anyone's money, His reviews, speak well of his commitment, I know him well enough.

I would highly recommend him, regardless of a occasional sour apples reviews, who feel , the world is owed to them.

I will continue to use his services, and recommend him to all, friends and associates.

Replace toilet and repair floor around toilet

My son rents a basement apartment from his Mom who owns the house. When his toilet stopped functioning, it became necessary for him to use a plunger to get an effective flush. Without going into detail this immediately became a safety and health issue. This was all explained to Mr. M, who was asked if he could make a confirmed commitment for a speedy solution. He was told that if was too busy I would go on to someone else. Mr M. confirmed.
He accepted full payment in cash (to help speed up the process as much as possible) for said repairs which were considered urgent.as the toilet was not functioning properly. What followed was a series of missed appointments and unreturned phone calls. He was shamed into starting work (what good is your word?) and put in one day which did not include the much needed toilet replacement. After 3 months of desperate waiting we've had to go to a bonded company who immediately gave us a fair estimate and a confirmed starting date three days from now., He has yet to return the unused portion of the money he was paid. Although he has indicated that he would do so, we don't hold much hope that he will. It is hoped that by seeing this published on this site that he might be shamed into doing the honest thing. He has been been given many opportunities to make this right but so far has chosen not to do so. It has been a nightmare trying to work with this individual and we hope to spare other householders the frustration and disappointment in return for hard earned money. If you see that I'm upset you would be right. This was not a renovation but a call for help to a "professional"in a difficult situation to say the least. That Mr could keep postponing the desperately needed work is beneath contempt. Though additional work became apparent replacing the toilet immediately was not an obstacle. He told me this when I offered to do it myself. He quite love the idea of me doing the work I paid him to do.
To give Mr. M his due, here is what he had to say:

"Jerry ,,
Received your threatening email, ultimatum email, very
Disgusted to the fact you will stoop so low, in concluding, I have try to stifle you,,
I have been in dialogue with Lenny , try to cordinate the project and had gone out is my way , and bought a shower has set as good will , it's a shame you don't understand Goodwill !
Lenny had openly mentioned to keep you out of the project and not to discuss with you , she found your concern wining and didn't want have any input from you , regretfully you are NOBODY as far her cocnern, I told her about your approach and she said it's my bathroom and my problem.
I bought the material , and delivered to site , removed all old flooring and found problems with the leaks,, project was halted as per Lenny till the leak issue got resolved , lenny wanted things done properly and replace shower also, pending money status ,
In mean time , I couldn't sit with warming my thumb as some of us do,
Project was not abandoned.
Now you dare to demand money, cause , you feel like it,
I will send you. Cheque for $200, as courtesy ,,

Yet you send me this
Email and phone message, I have forwarded to both to my Lawyer, for slander and loss of business, should you
Continue with your threats,
I hope you see this as a very serious matter and consult your lawyer.
I will drag this in court , for as long as it takes,

Have a great day ,"

To threaten someone is saying I may or may not do something especially to force somebody to do something that they don't want to do. I didn't say that I might expose you. I told I was going to expose you in a manner of giving you a heads up. That is called a courtesy. On the other hand to say you're going to sue me if I don't stop exposing you- well that is a threat. I hope you see the difference. My ex wife - Lannie refused to allow me to fix the toilet and quite rightly so because I don't know how. You say that you will send $200 as a "courtesy`` means you don't really think you should. So when you send this money (not holding my breath) could you please include the receipts which you say are around $400 and how you earned $600 for one day of work. One day to bring the toilet, vanity sink and flooring. and strip the floor of that small washroom. (less than 30 sq ft) You would charge $600?
Mr. M (will we ever get to know your real name?) the only reason you will experience loss income is because of yourself not other people who are entitled to complain. Your not the victim here. It's my son who had to do the ugly thing every time he had to go to the washroom and that's because you didn't have the professional integrity or the compassion to fix it immediately like any adult would. And if you were getting along so famously with Lannie, how come she went to another company? I'll tell you why. You once again failed to attend a promised appointment, this time promising to provide a replacement if you couldn't. Guess what? Like all the other times the day came and went and the day after and the day after and so on. Never once did you call her to explain and reassure. Why? That's what a professional does. And while you're talking with your lawyer ask what the penalty is when a professional is paid to do a job concerning health and safety and defaults as you have. It's a hard sell to portray yourself as the good guy and victim. It must take a lot of time to create this kind of fiction. You would be better served to own up and admit your error and spend more time helping the people who've paid you. Remember it takes no skill to fool people who trust you.

Reno

Sammy’s work is ok when he shows up for the job, I have been waiting 6 months for him to come back to finish some final touches and he has had many excuses why he cannot make it. I personally would not recommend his services to friends or family.
In the middle of the job he threatened to quit which made my wife and I very uneasy about the balance of the job in regards to upfront payments.
His technical skills are there and the work he did do looks good and seems to be of quality so far.

Renovate Basement

Sammy did a wonderful job by completing the contracted work on our home as promised. I did get price quotes from other contractors but decided to go with my gut feeling and hired Sammy mostly because of his competitive price and his welcoming demeanor. He requested 50% deposit at the outset and even though he was unable to begin working on the day promised, he did call me several days before to let me know. One of the most impressive things to me was realizing how sick he was but he still pushed through his illness in trying to complete the job on time. I was also impressed at the way Sammy was open to not only hearing my opinions and sharing my thoughts and ideas about the project, but also how open he was on listening and ensuring that he input my ideas that made sense, and workable. I could call him text him aytime if there was a concern or question. He would always respond in return. He also went out of his way to advise me on other reasonable options available, considering my finances, and suggested other ideas that could match my pocket. Sammy is a very humble, honest, reliable, capable and knowledgeable contractor. I was surprised at how updated he is with the latest technologies that work. I was lucky to have him as my contractor as he installed one such part at my home. I would recommend him without reservation or hesitation to anyone who requires a contractor who is reasonable, knowledgeable, honest, and respectful. I’m sure you’ll be pleased as I've been

Condo kitchen update

I called Samy to update my countertops (from laminate to granite) and install a new undermount sink/faucet. I was looking for someone to start the job ASAP and was able to start in a week. He did an excellent job, clean, very professional and met his timeline. I would recommend him to anyone who needs work in in their home. I would call on Samy again if I needed more intricate jobs done in my home in the future.

Basement restoration post flood and fencing and more

Sammy is the kind of contractor you dream about. Very skilled, totally trustworthy, efficient, knowledgable and adaptable. He quoted us for a job, I then fired off a list of more jobs, he got it all done under time. I will recommend him without hesitation. My kids loved him and he was very concerned about working with young kids around and making sure our home was as safe and accessible as possible as he worked. I have high standards. he met and exceeded them. Hire this firm you will be happy you did.

Kitchen reno

After interviewing many contractors we decided to book Smarthome handyman for the job. Sammy impressed us with his punctuality arriving for meetings, he was always friendly and cheerful and has an optimistic way about him. After meeting Sammy the 1st time he provided a full written quote within a couple of days with all aspects of his work covered.

The work Sammy did for us was replacing some drywall, plumbing, electrical, fitting new cabinets, potlights, under cabinet lighting, tiling and back splash.

We found Sammy to be very trustworthy and were more than comfortable leaving him with a key to our house while we were on vacation for 2 weeks.

As a stay at home mother with two young children I was very comfortable with Sammy and his apprentice in the house. Sammy makes it the last job of everyday to clean up the work space and leave things as tidy as possible - again something we much appreciated.

My overall experience with Smarthome Handyman services was very positive and I am loving my new kitchen - Thanks again Sammy !

Total condo reno

A total gut reno is hard enough but when you're doing a condo where the previous owner was a reclusive hoarder for the last thirty years, it can be quite overwhelming. Sammy was reliable, professional, and thorough. He's the kind of guy who takes pride in his craftsmanship, paying attention to the smallest details. As the pictures can attest, this was no easy task. All plumbing needed updating. The floors were unsalvageable. Electrical was a mess. The whole unit looked like a slum.

Sammy rose to the challenge, tackling each task with unrelenting energy. The plumbing was especially tricky, he had to go to the unit below mine and poke a hole through their ceiling to access the drain pipes. Now my bathroom is a dream to spend time in. The kitchen had the original avocado green appliances, and none of them worked. The stove was encrusted with grease from decades of neglect. The cabinets were not even fit to be burned as firewood. As it looks now, my friends are envious of my kitchen. Everybody thinks it's Scavolini (it's actually IKEA). My bedroom is "dreamy" as a female friend put it. Sammy didn't have any problems going to Leslieville to pick up some IKEA sliding doors I sourced through Craigslist and installing them on the built in closet.

All in all, i was quite satisfied with the work done. Of course, all the usual reno headaches were there. But with a lot of patience, a little humor and a healthy dose of red wine, well, I made it. Thanks to Sammy and the boys.

I will definitely hire hime to do the other condo next year.
