Front porch, and multiple interior carpentry jobs

I want to share my experience with John Groves and his staff because it is rare to find someone who actually cares about his customers and is passionate about his work. John has worked on my home and many of my investment properties. Over the years I have had my run ins with some troubling trades people. Finding John on Homestars was a blessing. I am a young woman in a predominately male business. John was so professional without coming off as a know it all. He was down to earth, open for suggestions and completely honest. He never once made me feel like he was pushing me to make choices that were not in my best interest and always helped me stay on budget and make smart choices. John is sincere and someone I have referred to many friends and family. When you are looking for craftsmanship quality and a honest skilled tradesman, John Groves is your guy. You have my word.

Subfloor Installation

After purchasing an older home, removing the carpet on the upper floor revealed some questionable repair jobs by previous owners. I contacted B.B.G. Carpentry for a small job of installing 1/4" subfloor throughout the 450 sq. ft. upstairs area. They were able to do the job quickly within my rather short timelines. The floors look fantastic, squeak a lot less and are ready for the carpet installation tomorrow!

Porch re-build

After obtaining several quotes for our porch re-build, we chose John from BBG because he was knowledgable, professional, and came in at a good price. We just recently finished our project, and were not disappointed. John was a pleasure to deal with - communicative, punctual and friendly. Most importantly, the quality of the work was outstanding. John does not take short-cuts, and we now have a beautiful, solid new porch which we know will stand the test of time. We would absolutely recommend BBG and hope to work with John and his team again for other projects in our home.

Front Porch Replacement

John and his apprentice replaced our entire front porch in a timely manner and did an outstanding job. At the beginning of the project John provided us with a few options to choose from based on our budget and desired design. Throughout the project John communicated with us on a regular basis and provided us with updates on the progress. We were very pleased with the final outcome and a friend of ours (who is also a carpenter) actually commented on the high quality finished product that John created. I would recommend John for any carpentry work you are planning to complete.

Front Porch

John did a fantastic job on our front porch. He is easy to talk to: communicated any unexpected problems and solutions. We ended up doing more than we had first expected but now feel confident that we have a porch that will last and is sturdy enough to park a car on. It looks great as well and we've gotten lots of compliments on it. Definitely want to hire John again for other jobs in the future. Very professional and great workmanship.

Superlative workmanship and attention to detail

After several frustrating attempts to obtain quotes on replacement of a 23 yr old deck, John Groves cheerfully agreed to look at the job. From the moment John looked at the deck, we knew he was our guy. He determined the problem areas and the potential safety issue and advised us as to how to proceed, keeping code into account. He sent a landscape designer over to ensure that the new deck would be esthetically compatible with the landscape in our yard. We had a curved area which required detailed, time consuming carpentry. John had several ideas which enhanced the utility of the deck. We now have a beautiful cedar deck which is more functional than our previous one. John has a very pleasant disposition. Both he and his assistants take the time to provide detailed feedback and ensure that you are pleased with the work. His price is competitive and there were no surprises upon completion. Despite the fact that he is highly sought after, John will not rush his work or compromise on quality of craftsmanship. In the 23 years we have lived in our custom built home, he is unequivocally, one of the finest tradespeople we have ever worked with .

Two level cedar deck with pergula and lighting

We hired John to build our cedar deck after reading his reviews on Homestars. John is a true professional, after our first meeting we knew we had to hire him. We were not disappointed! First, his price was excellent. Second, John's workmanship is second to none. He put a lot of fine detail into building the deck, taking no short cuts. We ran into a couple design issues but John offered us multiple solutions. We've been getting compliments from just about everyone who has seen our deck. We plan on hiring John for other home renovation projects.

Wall Build/Full

John is the best. There isn't any job he can't do. We initially hired John to build a wall in our basement as we needed an extra bedroom. He arrived on time and before I knew it the wall was framed and up. We then decided to build a closet and full shelving unit in our master bedroom. The plan was ambitious and time consuming to say the least. Even though it wasn't in the original scope of work, John happily complied and helped problem solve the space issue. John was so quick he was able to get the majority of it completed in one week. It looks absolutely amazing. While he was working on the big projects John fixed a whole bunch of little things around the house. I wouldn't hesitate to hire John for any job. He is a true professional - he knows exactly what he is doing, he does it quickly and he is very competitively priced.

Front porch

John Groves is the best. He cares about his work - and it truly shows. My house's front porch was the disastrous result of the previous owner's DIY. John's commitment and planning (working with the masonry company) has made our front porch better than I could have ever imagined. I plan to work with John again on several future projects.

Rotten Pillars/Columns

We had two columns at our front door that unfortunately had starting rotting at the bottom. We had a few avenues that we could take, but John offered to salvage the current ones with a modification at the base. And wow! He did an amazing job with keeping the existing columns in place. They look great now! He was pleasant to deal with, kept his word regarding his time frame and cost and great workmanship. We would highly recommend John and BBG Carpentry & Renovations!
