Deck

John did a fantastic job building our deck. He made great suggestions on design, and paid close attention to all the details. He checked to ensure we were happy at every step along the way, and took the time to explain the details and answer any questions we had. He is a true craftsman that takes great pride in his work. We are very happy with our deck, and wouldn't hesitate to hire John again!

Custom Door and Trim Install

After removing old doors and jams from our 1960s era home, we realized the thickness of the wall wasn't standard and we needed completely custom carpentry to get the job done. John was fantastic, finished on time and budget. A true craftsman with the ability to deal with inevitable situations that occur in older houses. I'll be hiring him again in the future if needed.

Fence and Deck

We were thrilled with John's work on replacing about 250ft of fencing and building us a uniquely designed 700+square foot cedar deck. John has amazing attention to detail that we really appreciated and he is great at solving problems that come up, including finding the appropriate assistance/contractors when necessary. He was also great at bringing things that we wouldn't have thought of to our attention. Everything John does and recommends is to make sure that his customers are happy with the finished product. His dog Coco was also a joy to have around - especially for our young kids! John's pricing is competitive and considering the quality of his work I wouldn't hesitate using him again (we will!) or recommending him to others! Thanks John (and Coco!)

Full Basement Renovation

After finding BBG Carpentry on Homestars and bringing John in for a smaller job on short notice, we brought him back to tackle our basement renovation - a full gut and rebuild of our 900 sq. ft. basement including a bedroom, a den, laundry room, bathroom, media area, workout area and a roughed in kitchenette.

Along the way, as with many 100 year old homes, things were discovered which lead to changes to the scope of the project and inevitable project delays. For example, we had not planned to re-pour the concrete flooring, but after the demo and some excavation for initial plumbing work, it was realized that the cement floor had been initially done improperly and to be redone. John brought in an excellent subcontractor to do the work. John has a network of excellent subcontractors that he's worked with - and he works to obtain a fair price for the work required.

John provided excellent suggestions for finishes such as how best frame out the basement windows, options available to us for various elements (e.g. choices for subfloor for under the planned laminate & carpet). He listened to concerns and suggestions and was able to come up with solutions that worked for everyone. He made use of odd spaces to create niches and built-ins. He thought ahead to planned use of rooms and added elements such as adding substantial blocking in walls where TVs were going to be mounted. He also came up with some unorthodox solutions to unique challenges, such as how to handle insufficient headspace above the planned location for a treadmill.

We were always able to get a hold of John in a reasonable amount of time. He was responsive to our emails and made sure we knew when he would be unavailable (such as birth of his son during the renovation!) which was much appreciated.

We are extremely happy with the final product and hope that he can make some time in the spring to build a firewood shelter! We'll definitely keep John in our contact list for future jobs.

porch restoration and rebuild

John and his partner on this job, Paul from Crowning Touch Trim, did a fantastic job for me and my clients. We did a complete 2-story porch rebuild that posed many challenges--all of which were met and overcome. They were reliable, courteous, accomodating, and skilled. They showed up when they said they were going to, they were sensitive to budgetary concerns, they were professional and pleasant on the work site, navigated the inspection process seamlessly and to top it off they accomodated the rigours of an HGTV shooting schedule!

2 storey deck

BEAUTIFUL OUTDOOR LIVING SPACE CREATED BY BBG CARPENTRY INC.

John Groves, the owner and operator of BBD CARPENTRY INC. came to my house for a quote. I have never made a better decision when I went with BBG CARPENTRY INC. to create an outdoor living space, where I can enjoy the beauty of nature. The 2 storey deck was a hand picked cedar deck. He made sure every piece was at it's best. His quality workmanship and design tactics was a true work of art. Even the inspector who passed the deck from start to finish, was so impressed with John's work, that he started to recommend him to other people he knew. John's positive attitude and energy was a welcome in our home. My two girls (ages 1 & 2) enjoyed John and Coco (his dog) everyday. He is very sadly missed now that the deck is done. His time and efforts are truly valued and worth every penny. He has made me very, very happy and he made sure I was completely happy throughout the process from start to finish. I had no worries that he would do the job right. My neighbors, family & friends also had come over before the work was finished and was amazed at the quality, durability and the no shortcuts of his work. He is truly a great carpenter and I have nothing but high praises for someone who has put so much effort and pride into what he does for a living. I would definitely recommend him to many, many friends & family. Thank you John, for your hard work and the beauty that will last a very, very long time.

P.S. I'll put the kettle on when you come by! Ha! Ha! Ha!

New stairs and rail

John Groves built my new stairs and railing in time for my surgery recovery; strength and sturdiness were vital. He did a great job and taught me a lot in the process. He has integrity and is as fussy as I am!.
