I had a cedar deck installed by John and his crew in April 2013. They did a fabulous job: advising me on layout and design (and it' turned out perfectly) and the advantages/disadvantages of different kinds of decking materials. They arrived on time, worked diligently to keep the project on track (which was a challenge, given the unpredictable April weather). John's attention to detail and the quality of his work is impeccable - and his pricing is very reasonable. He and his staff were always courteous and respectful. I would recommend them highly.

Our deck railings needed replacement. John did the work in one afternoon - it looks fantastic and has likely extended the life of our deck! Excellent workmanship and cleaned up after the project - I would recommend John!

John couldn't start as soon as I wanted, but the date he gave me in advance was right on. Work quality perfect. Responsive, good natured, helpful advice, no shortcuts. Great stuff!

We contacted John in May and we had to wait till August for our deck. Well, we weren't too happy when he told us about the long waitlist but we are very glad we hired him. We thought that he is busy for a reason and indeed the wait was definitely worth it for us. John and his crew just finished building a gorgeous deck. And we are equally happy with the process. So in May we contacted four companies, quotes ranged a little bit but not that much actually. John was not the highest but up there. Definitely not the lowest. The differences weren't that great and we liked the reviews for him here on Homestars. My wife and I also just liked him as a person. He comes across honest, straight-forward and definitely competent. We had a good feeling about him and these things turned out to be all true. He and his crew really build a great deck. The payment process was transparent throughout, there was excellent workmanship, attention to detail, and, very importantly, when John ran into problems with us (for example, we used that new PT wood called MicroPro Sienna which looks nice but because of variance among the boards needed to be hand-picked by John to avoid a blotchy looking deck!) such as having to drive to three or four stores to hand pick the wood and exchange boards already put down, he did not charge extra. We added and changed a few smaller things here and there that made his life difficult at times and he never charged extra except for material. No "nickel and diming" which I like a lot. He always stayed positive and nice throughout the whole process, he communicated a lot to make sure things get done the way we wanted. In sum, his ratings on here are absolutely true. We are very glad we waited for him and that means something because we lost out on almost the whole summer. I absolutely recommend him. Just make sure you get in line early enough.

After trying to set up several meetings with other deck companies, who either never showed or called back. We finally came across John and we knew from the get go he was the right person for this job. The deck turned out better then expected and we couldn't be more happy with the final outcome. If you want an honest person with fair prices don't look elsewhere. There's a reason his reviews are so good.

John has just completed a beautiful Ipe (hardwood) deck for our backyard. John is meticulous about ensuring that every detail is correct and to our liking and he will not cut corners. The end result is a beautiful deck. I would very highly recommend John for his skill, honesty and dedication to ensuring the end product is of the highest quality.

John and his team did an excellent job on designing and building a beautiful surround for our fireplace and built-in shelves to frame the surround in our newly renovated basement . The design was perfectly in keeping with the modern design of our home, the work was done quickly and professionally and the result was exactly what we wanted. John worked with us before on a great deck for our starter home and we were delighted that he would work on a very different project for our new home. John is professional, the quality of his work is excellent and he is a great person to get to know! We highly recommend John!

John Groves did an excellent job with a complete bathroom redo and managing all the oddities of an old house. The final product looks great, in large part thanks to John's material and design advice. This is the third time we have contracted with BBG Carpentry and we continue to be very pleased with BBGs craftsmanship, quality and easy working relationships.

John and his assistant did a great job taking down and rebuilding our front deck. He took care of lots of little details which showcase his experience as a carpenter; touches we wouldn't have expected from an average deck builder. We're both very pleased with the work and result.
