Cleaning Saga

was quoted (verbally) 2 people for 6 hours for a deep clean of my 2 bed 1 bath condo for a total of $350. One cleaner came in for 3 hours.

The cleaner seemed to think it was already cleaned once she got there and that it wouldn't take her long. I agree, the unit was pretty clean, but I reiterated to her that this was for a DEEP, detailed clean, she agreed that would be done.

After just 3 hours she called me to see if I could come check the unit. When I got there, she showed me what she did and everything looked okay. She claimed that she did all the light fixtures, so I asked her if she cleaned all the walls, baseboards, and doors, which was in the booking AND the list I left for her and she said yes. Hindsight, I should have gotten on the stool to check the fans/lights and thoroughly checked the rest of the list, but I trusted her word. I had to leave to get back to work, so I did not have a good chance to look at it.

I had already left the tip out before she completed the job, as I didn't know if I would be able to leave work and check the unit when she was done. From the reviews I didn't think I had anything to worry about (I should have checked the one star reviews). I was also under the impression that it was 2 cleaners for 6 hours, not one cleaning for 3. If I knew that I would not have left a tip out at all.

What wasn't cleaned:
The ceiling fans
The top of the fridge (wrote "hi" in the dust)
The cupboard above the fridge (wrote "hi" in the dust)
Microwave cupboard
Trim was still dirty in many places
Window sills - we even found a very old cigarette butt in one of them
Doors
There was still dirt caked on the floor and they had to be rewashed TWICE
Underneath the bathroom cabinet (a whole pile of hair - ick)
Back of bathroom light fixture
Cobwebs in corners and ceiling

While the company did offer to send the lady back we really didn't want her back. She cleaned on a Friday and my tenants were moving in the next day. She did not complete the work that she claimed she had, I did not want her back to clean the unit when she couldn't even do it the first time. I did not think that was a fair solution. For a general clean (which is what you can expect in 3 hours) - it was OK, but this was NOT what I paid for.

I had requested a full refund, as my mom and I spent a total of 12 hours deep cleaning after the cleaner left. I received a $50 refund. Including tax and tip I paid a total of $350 for a 3 hour general clean. If they had sent 2 cleaners for 6 hours as verbally stated, it probably would have been clean. Is there no company standard for what should be considered a "deep clean"?

After much back and forth with the company I paid a total of (including tax and an undeserved $50 tip) $260 for a 3 hour clean. While I have accepted this and received an apology from the owner I will not be using their services in the future.

Approximate cost of services:
$260.00
