Zachary did everything he could to win our business. He had prompt responses, he came to look at the worksite, made recommendations that were cost effective, lowered his quote to work with our budget and told us he'd be done in 1-1.5 months. We were adding an extension bedroom/bathroom. He was very involved at first, the project started fast and he came to collect deposits every few days to order supplies for other parts of our reno. Then, communication became less frequent. We very quickly learned that he was being untruthful. Zachary sent us estimates that he either got from vendors/trades or that he made himself and never placed those orders. He gave us "updates" that were completely made up. Asked us to settle up some remaining balances for jobs when it was "a week from completion". When I called the vendors directly to find out what was going on as things were being held up for weeks, they told me that they had not spoken to Zachary in weeks despite Zachary telling us he was talking to them every few days. They never received any money from him. When we confronted Zachary, he then told us he decided to work with another vendor. When we called the other vendor, we got the same story from them. They made the estimate but no deposits were received to place the order. Zachary would promise to call us but never did. He made excuses: his dog being sick, family members dying, other things that came up such as personal holidays as to why he couldn't speak with us. Don't be fooled. He abandoned the work site after about 2 months, took materials from our worksite, was untruthful continuously (and from the very beginning) and for another 2 months after. When we decided to throw in the towel and fire him 4 months in, he refused to return the funds he collected from us for work that was either never completed or barely started. When we started to check everything else, we found that he made costly mistakes that will now cost us double to fix and undo. He didn't pay some trades and they refuse to finish the job unless they are paid fully for it, even though we paid Zachary for those jobs. We were quoted 65k and paid him 51k for a job that's barely done. We are now taking legal action to get our money back. Stay away from Avenue Road Renovations
