A few months back my wife and I embarked on renovating our newly purchased house. We were new homeowners, very much inexperienced, and eager to do something great with our new home that needed a lot of work.

In speaking with friends we quickly realized that a renovation of this magnitude would not only be expensive but risky. Many people told us horror stories about their experience with contractors. Inflating costs, unexpected charges and timelines way overdue.

As two professionals we set about doing our due diligence. We used homestars to try and find the "perfect contractor" before receiving a referral for Rafael at HomeBuild. In all we interviewed 14 different contractors.

The difference between the lowest and highest quotes we received was over $100,000. How is this possible? There was no transparency, vague explanations for costs and in the end we felt very uncertain about what to expect. Then we called Rafael.

From the start we were impressed with his frank nature, honesty and
warm character. In a time where we felt vulnerable he made us feel empowered and in control. We had confidence in the way he thoroughly explained things to us and helped us decided between "must do" items and "nice to do" items.

Before we moved ahead, he outlined the scope of work in a crystal clear fashion, week by week, with itemized elements broken down in an expected timeline. Payments were broken down according to work accomplished NOT some arbitrary percentage breakdown.

Not a single other contractor provided us a breakdown of this nature.

Rafael began work punctually and worked diligently. We met weekly at the end of every week to review the progress made. If the work that was outlined on the scope of work was delayed then no payment were required.

Rafael completed our renovation, including a multitude of unexpected add-ons to the project that we threw at him, ONE WEEK early.

His workmanship was exquisite and the finish was perfect. He oversaw all sub-contractors himself and was on site himself every single day.

We love our home and are thrilled with the changes we've made. We are grateful to have worked with Rafael not only for his expertise and craftsmanship, but because of how he made us feel about the project.

Renovations can change your life and we've heard horror stories about the unfortunate situation of many friends. This was not our experience and this was thanks to Rafael.

We've been considering renovating our small and outdated kitchen for a while. Considering our experience with smaller jobs, though, we were very scared because, with two kids, it would be hard to manage without a kitchen for too long and, in our experience, contractors simply did not meet their deadlines.

Rafael and his team not only met their deadline (5 weeks), but they surpassed our expectations in every way. They were on time every day, communicated very clearly what they were doing and the steps to come. Depending on what was getting done, Rafael would bring different people to help and every single one of them was professional and very respectful. Rafael has a "can do" attitude that simply put us at ease that he will figure out a way to make things work - and he had a lot of figuring out to do at our house because we put down structural walls and had to rearrange ducts and pipes. He also managed to put the farmhouse sink I wanted in an Ikea cabinet - other contractors we checked before said it could not be done and that we should go with custom cabinets. He was also patient answering all the questions I had, explaining what he was doing and waiting for my answers when we had to make decisions. Worth mentioning that we mistakenly thought we had to make one more weekly payment, even after Rafael telling us we did not have to. He patiently sat down with us to go through payments records and showed us that we were done with the weekly payments. Not sure if other contractors would have done the same.

All my friends that told me to expect weeks of delay are now surprised that Rafael and his team met the deadline, even though we added to the job and ended up renovating the whole floor. We will surely hire them again when we renovate other parts of the house.

No need to say that I love my main floor now - the kitchen, the powder room, the new flooring, closet doors. It feels like a different house! Cannot thank you enough, Rafael! Thank you!

HomeBuild S.A. did an extraordinary home renovation for us. Rafael came in the first time to look at the project and all the ideas we had for our main floor remodel, he was very easy to deal with and had so much knowledge and patience as this was our first time going through a renovation like this. He quoted the project within a week of our meeting and we knew that we wanted him to take over the entire project, which included (demolition of main floor, new electrical, new plumbing, installing support beams as we wanted an open concept for our kitchen area, flooring, drywall, kitchen installation, as well as the appliances and so much more) The whole job took almost 8 weeks as he promised when we signed the contract, as surprises arouse, he dealt with all of them and made us aware of each one of them with an incredible professionalism, we are very happy with the end result, the whole team of HomeBuild S.A. is very polite and hard working, we will definitely be calling and referring Rafael and his company for more projects in the future.

We decided it was time for a renovation of our bathroom and after reviewing several contractors we decided to go with HomeBuild S.A. We could not be happier with Rafael and his company. From the day we met to the finished bathroom everything went exactly as they promised. Everything that Rafael promised he delivered .He had lots of ideas for how best to design the bathroom and we followed. I paid what we agreed on when I signed the contract, and there was no surprises. With all the horror stories you hear from friends and family going through a renovation with different contractors. I can say that I’am very lucky i have found them.
