I am a senior citizen who required a painter for my newly purchased home that was under a complete inside renovation upstairs and downstairs. I put out a request detailing as much information as possible of what I needed to have completed through a couple of on-line services that work with numerous different companies/trades. Mel from Clear Choice Painting responded. When Mel arrived he was extremely friendly and charming and assured me that he was one of the best painters and would be fair.
Well, "fair" is exactly what I would say I did NOT receive for the $18,000.00 that I paid to Mel. (Held back $500.00 only). This experience has been a complete disappointment for someone who said he would be fair yet took my money, failed to do his own quality control and be responsible for his worker's work. Every time areas were pointed out to Mel that were missed, overlooked, sloppy workmanship, small holes not filled in, sanding was not done before being painted, needed to be fixed or touched up, etc. it "was NOT his fault". It was always someone else's fault. He brought in 3 different workers. Not one stayed. Corners were cut or sloppy work was done especially behind doors, ceiling/wall corners were not sanded before painting, left paint splatter/drips on floor, on bracket hardware, door hardware, on brand new downstairs toilet seat. Not one worker remained nor came back to finish or fix his mistakes/oversights. He recommended another individual to do carpentry work involving: widening doors for wheelchair accessibility, etc. and the problems with this work is another story and this same individual also installed the downstairs toilet which was wobbling and I have pictures to show what was found that is boggling to believe.
After being paid $18,000.00 and him returning from his out of the country trip to be with his ailing Mother, and upon two attempts with him to go over everything, he became indignant and verbally abusive towards me and of course, I became upset with being treated in such a manner. Why would I choose to have him back in my house after two attempts to fix anything even with his two year warranty guarantee? He was gone for a few weeks and upon coming back he blamed others and clearly stated he wasn't going to fix someone else's mistakes or damages done. After him being gone for just a few weeks and the response I received, what would he say/do to having him come back in a year or two to do warranty work if this is what his response/reaction is within a few weeks??!!!! Two years warranty??!!! Really??!!!! Additional issues, include but are not limited to the following:
* baseboards - some were not painted
* closet bars - some were not painted or partially painted
* kitchen ceiling started to bubble up and peel off
* bannister - holes not filled in
* missed painting one door, and handrail for stairs
* every room has deficiencies
* yellow patches not painted
* can still see the original color behind new paint in some rooms and in closets
* paint on door hardware
* repaint needed for 3 ceilings (rec room, kitchen, basement bedroom)
* fix, repair, sand and repaint new baseboards on both floors 2 coats including door stoppers
* do many wall touch ups
* repaint closet at front entrance
* paint downstairs maintenance room door
* paint downstairs hand railing
* etc. just finding more
It is now going to cost me additional money to fix, redo, paint, repaint what should have been taken care of by Mel. $18,000.00 Mel !!!! Two year warranty Mel !!!! What are you going to do to make this right Mel ??
And I do have many pictures that are available upon request
