Our renovation had two parts. In the summer, we renovated the house. We did not have the money to totally gut the place and wanted to keep as much of the original plasterwork as possible, including cornices and curved walls. Most of the contractors we talked to were quite negative about plaster repair and said the whole thing had to come down, but Peter was much more receptive. We had lots of unique requests and through it all, he guided us in making choices and did his utmost to ensure our desires were met, whether it was plaster repair rather than complete replacement, custom wood flooring, and even the red carpet on the stairs to the second floor. Milan and Robert, who did much of the interior work were incredible - efficient, clean, wonderful to have around. Other contractors did their work well and Peter was always responsive when problems had to be solved.

One such problem had to do with the walls beneath the back deck. It was discovered during the stuccoing that these walls were rotting and that the deck had to be removed. At the time, we had neither the money nor the desire to extend the summer project and settled for a short term solution. In the fall, when were ready, Peter came back and George, Milan (not the same Milan who did the interior work) and Nick took out the old deck, fixed the wall and installed a new deck. Milosz supplied the glass siding (he had also supplied the glass for our custom shower in the upstairs bathroom) and his work is beautiful. Once again, receptive to our needs and our budget and we are thrilled with the results.

It must be said for anyone looking to hire a general contractor: this is a matter of compatibility. There are plenty of good general contractors and certainly we talked to a few. However, we really felt that Peter understood us and he proved that he could find ways to successfully meet the needs of the project in this old, idiosyncratic house. It has been a pleasure working with him. We feel we got good value and great quality.
