Driveway ramp and sealing

Daniel and his partner worked on building a ramp to the garage for my sunken driveway. My neighbours did the same another company last year and I only could manage to do it this year.

The work involved:
- Used bagged cold asphalt and a manual tamper to build the ramp
- Spray type sealer that was used for sealing the driveway

Approximate cost of services:
$240.00

Driveway ramp and sealing

Daniel and his partner worked on building a ramp to the garage for my sunken driveway. My neighbours did the same another company last year and I only could manage to do it this year.

The work involved:
- Used bagged cold asphalt and a manual tamper to build the ramp
- Spray type sealer that was used for sealing the driveway

Satisfaction:
Overall I wasn't too happy with the workmanship done which I fully expressed and told them.

- Ramp did not flush with the garage level. It's true that it does not effect the fact that you can still smoothly drive into the garage but it is not aesthetically pleasing to have the gap between the ramp and the garage.
- The ramp is not smooth (evident in the picture), not enough cold asphalt was used to build the ramp, and they did not tamp enough during the repair process.
- The cleaning process prior to the ramp building was not thorough. This was evident from the weeds that had grown through the ramp.
- Some driveway cracks were not exposed to the sealant; given that it was a spray type sealant, it would not have been hard to get the nooks and crannies. When I informed them of this, they considered it crack repair..

To their credit they did come back to see what was wrong and filled in a 1 cm diameter hole that had fully collapsed (because they did not use enough material and nor did they tamper enough), but did not attempt to address the issue that their work was just not up to par to what I was expecting and what my neighbours had.

The explanation given was what I already knew. Yes, my driveway does have extensive potholes and is due for a replacement, but I wanted a neat temporary fix. The justification given that my driveway is "bumpy" is not acceptable.

I will not be using their services in the future.

Recommendation to Seal City: If the job could not have been completed with proper workmanship due to the complexity/severity, that should have been stated in the beginning not after the fact. I would have simply gone with another vendor.

After doing a little research, when doing such a ramp repair, it would be better to use hot asphalt instead.

Approximate cost of services:
$240.00
