Besides being late but also doing their job fast, Zanatta’s owner/operator would not take on any job unless a property owner applies for “Locates” themselves,…Zanatta refuses do the locates for a smart reason,…in Ontario the one who applies for Locates is the one on the hook for any damage that may occur to underground structures,…This is exactly what happened on my property,…before the start of work Zanatta was given the said locates as requested, the owner/operator did not pay enough attention to the clear detailed drawings on the locates, as he should, he proceeded with digging and midway through his work damaged one main Bell cable 4’ underground…this damage required Bell to bring in their work crew with backhoe to excavate a hole deep enough and big enough for a man to fit inside and repair the damage….The original quoted $300 job turned, months later, into $3000+ repair invoice from Bell’s claims department….Zanatta’s owner finished his job for that day but refused to take responsibility for the damage he caused,….knowing fully that the locates were done by me, hence I would be on the hook for the damage not him…..he later kept calling back asking for outstanding payment (as if nothing had happened)…..the one thing that saved our skin was the casual pictures I took with phone while Zanatta was at work digging, I was going to show them to wife and kids afterwards….these photos, along with dates and detailed explanations were sufficient evidence for Bell insurance to add Zanatta to their claim….this in turn was the only reason that forced Zanatta's owner to process the claim through his insurance which settled the matter.
