Duct Cleaning - maybe not for houses with HRVs
Miguel was very prompt and professional in answering any questions prior to booking. Their prices were very competitive. The website made booking a breeze and the automated reminders were great. The 2 techs arrived promptly and were quite friendly. They took the time to answer all my questions. They even showed me all the dust and debris that had been sucked out of the vents. I was impressed.
I wouldn’t currently recommend them for anyone who has an HRV air exchanger in their home. At the time of cleaning, when I asked the techs how the air exchanger would be impacted, the techs said they weren’t familiar with air exchangers, so it was unplugged during the cleaning. Miguel has assured me they are going to do research into HRV interaction with the duct work, so this will hopefully change in the future.
After the cleaning, I discovered this lack of familiarity resulted in 5 vents being blown/brushed clean directly into the HRV air exchanger without their suction machine connected in the middle to intercept. As a result, the HRV filters were dirty and I needed to clean them after. As well, the downstream furnace filter was quite dirty 24 hours later and there was a small buildup of dust on surfaces in the home. 48 hours after the cleaning, a motor in the HRV started overheating and left a burn mark in the foam – I’m lucky I caught it. It’s a 22 year old HRV, so it could just coincidental, but it had to be replaced.
For the HRV troubles and a small toonie sized dent left in the wall, Miguel kindly offered us a partial refund and provided it quite promptly. We very much appreciated it!
