We had them smooth and paint our popcorn ceiling that we previously removed ourselves.
Debbie came in and gave us a quote. She said the painters can remove the pot lights, based on our conversation with her, we were happy and opted to proceed with the work and contract.
We asked the painters to please seal off both entrances to the kitchen. On the day when the work started, the painters said they cannot take out these pot lights. After much discussion, they said they will try to remove them, so we left them to the job and left. At the end of the day, when we came to check on the progress (after the painters had left), we noticed several things:
-they did not cover both entrances to the kitchen, but rather used the kitchen for storage of their tools directly on our marble counter tops and floor (pictures attached)
-because they did not seal up the kitchen, they left a layer of dust all over my kitchen - including the stove, water bottles, counter (picture attached).
-since we were not in the house, they felt they had the liberty to walk all around the house (upstairs and basement). The work to be done was on the main floor, not anywhere else.
-they had used all bathrooms in the house - when I had specifically showed them the powder room on the main floor. There was no need to go anywhere else.
-they had also helped themselves to a glass from my kitchen cabinet. After the job was done, the glass was no where to be found.
They attempted to clean up, but left a bag full of garbage on my kitchen floor (picture attached)
They had removed the pot lights, but they did not remove them carefully. Each pot light has 2 metal pins, they did not take out all of the pins and left most of them in the ceiling. Later when we had to put the pot lights back in, we had to stick our hands into the ceiling and search for the pins ourselves. We found all but 4! We asked Debbie to adjust the cost of the invoice as we need to buy 4 new pins but she refused.
Ryan (the production manager) came back to re-assess the project as the ceiling stain was stubborn and needed another coat of stronger stain blocker and top coat. She quoted us an additional $450. That day, I made sure I was at the house for the duration of the project. They only did the stain blocker and did not do the top coat as they said it was not needed.
Debbie then sent me the full invoice that included the cost of the top coat. Had I not been there to know that they did not do the top coat, I would have ended up paying for it. They did not adjust the invoice on their own.
You need to be present when they are doing work at the house. Debbie is just the person that provides the quote, she does not do the work. So when she says something can be done, get it in writing. Had we known that they would have removed the pot lights with this quality, we would have removed them ourselves.
Although the ceiling looked great at the end - I am not happy with the the overall conduct of the company and various gaps in communication within the team.
I do not recommend this company!
