Slide Out Shelves for Ikea Akurum Kitchen Cabinet

We have been operating through out Canada for 7 years and I can honestly say we have never had a serious complaint.
This client contacted me during COVID lock down, she wanted to replace a Rev a Shelf Pantry that had broken down, with drawers.
I informed her that this would have to be a Do It Yourself order as we could not come out to Whitby for 5 drawers, since it involved 2 trips, one to measure and then to install.
She assured me that her husband was very handy and could measure and install. After husband declined to install, we agreed on a price for him to do the measurements and me to come out and install.
The client accepted the quote showing drawer sizing based on her husband’s measurements and sent a deposit.
A week or so later she called to say her husband was too busy, could I install the doors. The drawers had already been manufactured. I informed her that we don’t normally install doors and it would require a specialized installer. Client was quoted $400 for this part of the job which she initially refused, but later accepted.
When we arrived in Whitby, we installed the drawers, and they were a perfect fit. However, when my installer examined the doors, he realised this was no simple install and he was not sure whether these doors with hinges would ever fit the cabinet. After 5 hours, including 2 trips to Home Depot, he succeeded with the installation. However, drawers were now too wide to slide out of the cabinet. We informed client’s husband of the situation and he responded, “not my problem, speak to my wife”. That evening I called and informed the client we would have to manufacture new drawers. I explained to her that the drawers were manufactured according to her husband’s measurements. The reason for the discrepancy was that the doors should have been installed prior to her husband measuring the cabinet. However, I was unhappy with the result and was prepared to split the extra cost 50/50.
Later that evening I received a very hostile call from her husband accusing me of holding him to ransom. This phone call combined with the client’s attitude left me feeling very unsettled. After much thought, I decided that I could no longer work with these clients. I invoiced them for the door installation, passed them a credit for the cost of the drawers and refunded the balance of their deposit. Their cabinet was now set up and they should have no difficulty purchasing drawers elsewhere. On the other hand, I absorbed all the costs of the drawers, and the installation.
