Installation of all windows

I had a terrible experience with this company. I am out of pocket $33,300.00 for windows and workmanship. Some of the windows were fine, but the installation and caulking was appalling. Insulation was missing in areas or none was used at all. The glass used in the basement is not insulated, and the same in the porch enclosure. The sill was taken off in the porch enclosure and nails were left sticking up, (they filed them down after i pointed it out), but the hand made sill is gone. They were the nails that held the sill. You can see the shims and outdoors as no caulking was done around the non-insulated glass.

Every area of the job had problems. the basement is especially bad. It is 59 degrees down there. i had to run the taps when we had that terrible cold spell, so the pipes would not freeze. I had a government agent come in with an instrument to help find where the cold was coming from. It actually feel like you are outside. He tested around the windows, where the second company i was forced to hire, had insulated. That area was okay. He finally checked the glass and advised it was just plain glass, not insulated glass. He felt that was the reason it was so cold. My contract had stated that ALL windows were to have insulated glass.

As i said i had to hire a second company to check and redo the whole job, starting on the 2nd floor for missing insulation. Their installer did that and filled in where it was missing and also caulked around each window trim, which was not done. In order to fix the 1st floor they started from scratch. Took out the new windows and replaced them with their windows, but made sure they fit properly and were draft proof.

Now for the cladding outside. Because i have aluminum siding, each window had to be framed in aluminum, This job was a terrible mess. bumps, jagged pieces of metal sticking out. Nails of different sizes and in odd areas used. My house siding was ripped open under two of the windows. i had called and emailed them about this and also about missing pet screens on the 2nd floor and the basement cold issues. i had requested pet screens on the 2nd floor, and they were also on my order. I found out later there is no such thing as pet screens put on by window companies, except on patio doors. I was told by the installation supervisor that the cladding is how they do cladding and that if i wanted a special cladding he would have to charge me extra. All i wanted was proper cladding, I had already been overcharged by about $10,000.00 in the first place, so i was not going to pay more. Then the clerk at the company advised suddenly the installation supervisor would return in 2 weeks when the caulking had hardened to fix the cladding. It would have to be completely redone. There was no way to fix it. But i stayed silent, hoping they would realize it could not be fixed when they came. Of course she never called back to set up an appointment date and time. I have not heard from them since. The windows were installed in January, 2023.

I was forced to hire a new company to redo the windows, insulation and cladding. The cladding now looks spectacular. They took all the mess off each window, got rid of all the jagged edges, covered the ripped siding, covered all the odd nails here and there and gave me cladding that looks like windows in the Hamptons.

i am 75 years old and a cancer survivor. All this constant worry, losing such a large chunk of my savings for nothing has taken a toll on my health. I believed them and fell for the we are family and will look after you lines. If i could give them a minus rating, i would. I was charged $15000 by the second company for the re-do and the checking and repairs. (A far cry from $33,300), and received classy and professional work. Also, the government agency cost me $508.00, with no rebate.

Approximate cost of services:
$33,300.00

Company Response

Hello,
We understand your frustration. The last time we communicated, we had agreed that we will re-do the aluminum capping and caulking for you when the existing caulking is fully dry, and add the foam insulation in a couple of spots per your request.
As we explained the reason that this wasn't done immediately after your installation is due to the metal siding on your house - it was impossible to take caulking off while it wasn't fully dry, so that we do not cause damage on your existing siding.
We had agreed to touch base in April to schedule this work. We had come back to see you to take care of services back in January, however we could not fix the caulking at the time due to it not being dry just yet.
Please note that we are ready and willing to fix the issues described, as promised.
Pet screen option comes only with doors, not windows. On the final revised contract you did not order the doors, only windows.
As for the rebate: your contract clearly states: "not eligible for rebate" as you have chosen grills and to specific UV-protection, which doesn't meet the criteria of Greener Homes rebate. This part has been explained by us and initialed and signed by you on the first line of your contract.
Our windows are Energy Star Certified and approved, sealed units are filled with Argon gas, and glass has UV protection. We double-checked your order, and all windows have insulated glass exactly as per contract.
We tried to call you today, as our notes on your file state to contact in April, and today is the first business day of April.
A few aluminum cappings, and some foam spots definitely don't cost $15,000. We have a strong feeling you got scammed by another company, please give us a call. Maybe it is not too late to get that money back for you.
