Let the rainy season begin! No more worrying about our old brittle cedar shake roof! We picked the best roofing company, Landmark Roofing from Langley, and the best shingle, the CertainTeed TL, and we couldn’t be happier. We received quotes from all the big companies and then went with Landmark. The fact that David’s company is only a couple of years old did not concern us. I’ve done all kinds of home repairs myself over the years so I knew what to look for. David knows his stuff. He answered all questions honestly and there were never any surprises.

And a bonus was Landmark’s price was better than any of the other quotes we received for the thicker TL shingle. His crew wore the safety equipment and David had the insurance in place so we were never concerned about safety or civil liability on our jobsite.

We also can’t say enough about the guys on his roofing crew. The best! The guys on his crew are all experienced roofers who took the time to complete a flawless job and yet finished one day faster than the other quotes. They were friendly, polite, courteous, knowledgeable, punctual, and showed they cared about completing a first class job. We had rainy weather two of the four days and they made sure our open roof was never exposed to water damage while they worked. They even came here on a Saturday after first asking us for permission.

Landmark Roofing took the time to add hundreds and hundreds of feet of extra strapping reinforcement before nailing down the plywood. The cheaper companies just nail down plywood on the existing strapping. They went with the larger roof vents where the cheaper companies use the tiny vents. Every last piece of the old flashing was replaced with new and also new flashing was added to some new areas that should have had it before.

If they ever had the radio on, the music volume was at a reasonable level because the crew did not want to disturb the neighbours and us. Most of the time it was off because they were calling measurements back and forth to each other.

Each day they made sure everything was cleaned up and on the last day they even checked the entire cul de sac for nails and debris. At the end of the job there was very little material waste so David did not overquote the job and profit on the left over material. David also arranged for Kymar Gutters to come in and do an outstanding job with a brand new gutter system. They had to install a different gutter profile to match the dental molding on our facia board.

After comparing hundreds of roofs in the neighbourhood we are very glad we spent a little extra and picked the triple laminated shingles that have a higher profile and are better quality shingles.

Don’t go with the cheapest roofing company and the cheapest shingles to save a few dollars. You are inviting strangers to rip open your roof and replace it with a new one without knowing if they are even qualified. Unless you are standing up on the roof watching their work you do not see all of the ways they cut corners to save money. Our neighbours had already booked one of those fly-by-night companies to come put on cheap shingles. Once they saw Landmark’s workmanship firsthand, and spoke with the crew, they switched to Landmark and are having them install the upgraded TL shingles. Cheap shingles look like crap from day one. You can spot them a mile away. It devalues your house and the other houses in the neighbourhood. If I see a house with a cheap roof on the outside I wonder what other cheap renovations have been done on the inside.

Not all Roofers are the same. You can say that for any other profession: Doctors, Lawyers, Mechanics, etc. That's why we are happy that we chose Landmark Roofing and consequently took the time to write this long review so that others could benefit.
