furnace winter tune up

I wish I could say they are wonderful, but unfortunately I can't. They came in to do a winter tune up on our furnace and we ended up having to purchase a new furnace because the part that broke would take a couple of weeks to get here if it came at all, (their words). November 1 the coldest night of the winter so far and we had no heat and a furnace in pieces. $5000 later after they gave us a special price and a great deal according to Derek, we now have a new furnace. Sure they came and installed the new furnace the next day and we were sure told they were sorry a lot. Unfortunately Chris who initially came to do the furnace tune up and left saying he would be right back, never had the balls to come back and tell us himself that there was a problem, but had Derek (their salesman) phone and tell us we needed a new furnace because the $500 part would have to be ordered and would take at least a week or two to come in, that is if the correct part actually did come in as that has happened before (no guarantees). My husband is 74 and has had a stroke so there was no way we could possibly go even 2 or 3 days without heat, so we were caught between a rock and a hard place. The funny thing is our old furnace had been running perfectly for the last 12 years until they came to do the winter tune up. The gentleman who actually came to install the new furnace was very nice and kept telling us how sorry he was about everything. Oh and our daughter had her tune up done on November 1 by Western Sky and last night, not even two weeks later, her furnace stopped working. She had to call out Atco Gas to help her and was told that it was the pressure switch that stopped working. Her family went without heat last night because of the pressure switch that Western Sky said is not a part they check as part of their winter tune up. Funny but another company does include checking the pressure switch as part of their 28 point tune up. I guess I know where we will be going from now on and it won't be Western Sky Mechanical. Now Western Sky is telling her Atco was wrong and it is the circuit board and is a $500 part (strange coincidence that is would cost the same as my broken part), and she would probably be better off getting a new furnace. If anyone is thinking of having a winter tune up, I would recommend that they think twice about it. Maybe it is just coincidence that a 13 year old furnace would need replacing as well as my daughter's 11 year old furnace after the winter tune up, and that the part in both cases would happen to cost $500 which would make much more sense to purchase a new furnace instead of replacing the part. I find it hard to believe in coincidences.

Approximate cost of services:
$5,000.00
