Landscape work was required on a recently purchsed home. The grading at the side of the house was bringing water towards the residence. A number of landscape companies were contacted and the best experience was with Kivas, the owner of Etobicoke Landscaping. A number of referrals were provided and the price and timeline seemed to be fair. The work did take a few weeks to complete but the staff were extremely polite and prefessional while completing the job. Once the work was complete the bill was paid and I was told that one of the staff was taking the cheque to the bank and would be back with my receipt in a few minutes, this receipt never arrived. Over the next week end there was a heavy rainfall and it was discovered that the patio installed by Etobicoke Landscaping was actually directing even more water towards the house. Water poured in the side door of the house, covered the landing and entered the newly renovated basement. The water build up on the patio was over 4 inches deep and also entered the garage. Numerous calls were made to Etobicoke Landscaping and no call was ever returned. Four days later during a rain storm the Etobicoke Landscaping crew returned unannounced at my residence. The owner looked at me and asked if I wanted to punch him in the face. I advised him that all I wanted was the job done properly. Over the next few days there was some discussion as to the best way to fix the problem. It was decided that the french drain that had been installed would be increased in size. This solution appeared to work as there have been a number of heavy rains since and there has not been any water enter the residence. During these extra work days numerous requests were made for the rerceipt and I was told that the owner had it and would bring it to me, the owner never showed up at the job site again.Overall the job looks quite nice and the pergola seems to be very solid. The staff of the company that were on site were very nice and professional. Since the completion of the job numerous requests have been made through the company e-mail for maintenance suggestions as well as the outstanding receipt, there has never been a response. The problem seems to be from the owner of the company and his lack of presence and communication with the customer.
All in all I went in to this venture knowing that I was delaing with a smaller company run by a young man with aspirations of making this company work. I wanted to give the young new company a chance and now I believe this was a mistake.
