Basement Brothers

My wife and I just had a very unpleasant experience with these guys. They literally walked away from the project and left us stranded and in a very stressful scenario.

We've worked with a few contractors in the past but nothing compares to what we just went thru with these brothers.

We hired them because they seemed nice, open and willing to accommodate our requests. We just bought a new home and needed to re-do the floors, paint walls and update a few things in the house. A very easy job that took our past contractors just days to complete our previews home.

We were very open from the beginning and added a few more things as we realized we needed more work done in the new place (like it usually happens in every project). They were honest about the extra time it would take and we understood.

They started strong and things seemed to be moving along but on week #3 after a stressful move, living in a hotel for days and asking for updates on the project our place seemed nowhere near finished. We made many attempts to reach out and ask them on specific deadlines but we got no specific answers.

They took days off without even letting us know. In many occasions we came to visit our home to see the progress and found them nowhere to be seen. They worked like 2 to 3 hours a day and became really hard to talk to as they were just full of excuses.

We really liked these guys and wanted to believe them but after many missed deadlines and terrible communication we called them out on their lack of work ethic and they just could not take it.

In the end they could not even face us and took their tools and left.

My wife was very upset as we had hoped to have our dream home finished very soon. They needed 2 more days tops to complete it all and they just bailed.

We are business owners and would never leave any of our clients hanging like that. This was unacceptable in many levels and we hope to reach as many people out to let them know the truth about these guys.

I never give bad reviews because I always give people the benefit of the doubt as I was even telling my wife "They will finish the job, don't worry" Man I was wrong.

Please don't trust these reviews you see on their page. We were always nice and cordial with them and we just needed to be updated to informed and I guess that was too much for them to handle.

Very upset and disappointed.

I've attached a few pictures to show you the way they left things on our place.

We hired MM Flooring to do extensive renovations. They completed 90% of the job but were paid in full. Despite our being flexible with them, they took an inordinate amount of time to complete their work, sometimes not showing up on site for a month or so. Their best work was in the basement although there things that weren’t done properly like floor transitions which should be embarrassing for floor contractors. We had to hire another contractor to take on the work they had left behind. Within months of their work, we noticed cracks in the grout and black mould in the caulking in the bathrooms. We had to hire another contractor to do grout and caulking repairs. We found out that they had used poor materials and done the grouting and caulking improperly. They were sloppy in painting one of the bathrooms and as result our floor tiles have paint stains on them. They didn’t properly seal the taps resulting in water damage. I was very disappointed with my overall experience and don’t recommend them to anyone.

Do not use this company, they took payment in full and never completed the work. The standard of work was dreadful, used cheap pipes which leaked and the ceiling has now collapsed. Do not touch with a 10 foot pole!!!!

I hired Nick and Matt from "MM Flooring and renovations" also known as "basement brothers" to do main floor renovation paid $30,000 and stopped showing up to job after 1 month of work and didn't show again until 2 months later. They didn't finish job and didn't provide a receipt for which we agreed on in our contract. craftsmanship was horrible eg. railing spindles were secured by nailing through top of hand rail! Spindles not evenly spaced, exterior door not hung plumb or square, door beaten with a hammer to stop rubbing because not squared in jamb properly, laminate floor not completed, nails driven through laminate floor, trim not completed, closet doors not installed, transition pieces not installed. list goes on.

I have used the brothers on 3 homes since 2009 to complete new hardwood floors throughout my home. I wouldn't recommend anyone else, nor would I recommend a company unless they were up to my standards. The brothers are timely and very competent when it comes to complex jobs throughout our home. We have now purchased a new home and will be using the brothers to complete and update our new place to make it just ours!! Thanks Matt and Nick for all your hard work over the years
