Garage and driveway concrete pad

I hired Anthony of Generation Contracting Inc. because he was the mid-priced quote of the three quotes I had received. Also he had mutual friends. In summer of 2014, we paid him a deposit of $11,000. He started working on the garage pad at the end of August 2014. He said he had some financial problems because his partner had screwed him over and moved back to Ontario. He asked for most of the remaining balance as he would be working on the garage pad and driveway pad was to follow. So we paid him $12,000 with a holdback of $500, until the job was completed. He worked some days, but nothing consistent. He had a bunch of excuses. In October 2014, Anthony asks if he could start a job for a friend to pour a pad. We were not planning to build garage package until 2015 so I agreed, as long as he could still complete our concrete by spring of 2015. Anthony said he could do it, and as soon as this job was done, he would be working on our job. He did started working on the garage pad and even poured it, during the snow days. He said he couldn't do the rest of the concrete because the ground was hard and would need a "proctor" exam. I started to get worried, and asked for the proctor exam results on many occasions -- constantly following up. He was good to come up with excuses. I told him I wanted my money back. He said that the concrete had been paid for and he would see about getting it back from Edmonton Transit Mix (ETM). I said fine. Make sure you get it done by summer of 2015. He said for sure he would. We would be ETM's first pour in May 2015. I went on vacation. Came back in April of 2015. I called his cell phone. It was disconnected! I then facebooked messaged him. He called me back. I was relieved. He said he had to disconnect his old number because of a crazy ex-girlfriend. I got his new cell number. He said we were still on for a May pour. He felt bad for taking so long, and said that he would put epoxy on top of the garage pad because it would look awesome, plus he could use the photos on his website. I think because the garage pad turned out poorly. It was not smooth. Unlevel. Plus we asked him to put curbs on three of the four garage pad edges.. the back curb was not completed and the framing was not square. We contacted each other, and finally scheduled a date to start, which was in end of May 2015. When he was supposed to start, he called me and said he was going to get a divorce so he had to deal with that. I felt bad for him so I gave him some time to deal with that. In June 2015, he said he was good to start on driveway pad. Finally! I was working out of town so I was texted him on progress, and I was expecting the work to be done by the time I got back in a week. I come back to the driveway pad dug out and two huge mounds of dirt and gravel in my backyard. Now, I cold not get a hold of him. His facebook account was deleted. He was not answering text messages, phone calls, or emails. I was angry! I called mutual friends and subcontractors to get a hold of him. I even visited his apartment. A couple of times his truck was parked out on the street, but he would not answer his door. Even his buzzer was disconnected, but furniture and his dog was inside. I received a text after a few weeks saying he was going through tough times.. he was going to lose his truck and apartment in the divorce. I said for him to meet up so we could come to a resolution. He agreed. We met up. He felt bad. It seemed sincere. He said he would pay back the money by either borrowing it. He was not able to borrow it so he has agreed to pay back in regular scheduled payments. He had agreed to pay an amount every two weeks. He had only made two payments. One was a partial payment. He said he had his truck repossessed by the bank, and he had to borrow money from his employer to pay for a replacement vehicle. Therefore he could not make another payment until December 2015. He would be getting a Christmas bonus so he could make up for the missed payments. When I followed up in December, to ensure he was making a payment, he said no because he was laid off, but was applying for jobs. In January 2016, he emailed me to notify me that he got a job and would start paying us back, when he started getting pay cheques. He gave me a date so I followed up with him via email. He said that both Money Mart and The Cash Store have been taking money out of the accounts he had been depositing his pay cheques into. He was not aware of this so he said he would open a new bank account for depositing future pay cheques so he can pay us back. He needed a "few" days. I followed up via email after several days. Now he is not returning emails, text messages, and phone calls.

Backyard Fence

Anthony Zorzetto, was hired to build a new back yard fence for us last summer. The results were amazing and we now have the nicest fence on the block. I would recommend him to friends and definately use his services again in the future.

Bathroom and Kitchen reno

Generation contracting exceeded all of our expectations. The quality of work was incredible, they were very respectful, and they finished the job ahead of schedule. Not only did they complete the renovations, they noticed a minor leak in our roof and went out of their way to troubleshoot the cause and then fixed it for us. Anthony was the best contractor I have hired (and I have hired many) and his sub-trades were also very impressive. Before working with generation contracting I had lost faith completely in the construction/ renovation industry but generation has proven that there are good contractors out there and they are worth every penny!

Basement Renovation and Deck Expansion

Very good story to tell. Anthony and his team came in, were full of great ideas to maximize the space I had in the basement, including some duct work to raise ceiling height. Attention to detail and get it done attitude was great to work with. Once the basement was finished to both Anthony and my satisfaction we moved on to other projects including a deck expansion, an interior/exterior fireplace addition (which turned out awesome!), some stonework interior and exterior finishing and more to come next season. Great to work with and my go to contractor from small jobs to bigger in the future. Great vision for even the smallest details that make the largest impact.

Basement Renovation

I’m not one to write reviews online, but I feel it is important that I share the experience I had hiring Generation Contracting Inc. for my home renovations. My wife and I bought our first house this spring. To be able to more comfortably afford the mortgage payment we decided to build an income suite in our basement. After speaking with several different contractors, we made the decision to go with Generation because they were priced pretty averagely, Anthony seemed professional, and they promised they could get it done in the timeframe we needed. The first couple of weeks working with Generation were pretty good. The demo went smoothly and there were no unexpected surprises in our basement. Everything was good to go for the basement suite and construction began. A few weeks in, problems started occurring. We would come home to find out that no work had been done on our basement for days at a time. Various excuses were given about why no work had been done but we were always promised that we were right on schedule and there was no need to worry. Being first time renovators, we worried that things would not be finished on time but trusted that the professionals knew what they were doing. Anthony came to us one day asking for money early because of an issue that had happened with one of his other projects. We were very accommodating and paid him what he asked for, no questions asked. Two weeks before the deadline, it became quite obvious that we would not be finishing on time. In order to rent a portion of our home in the timeframe we had planned, we moved out so that we could rent out our upstairs suite. When the promised completion date came we had no flooring, no usable kitchen, no paint on the walls, unfinished electrical and plumbing, and various other things still uncompleted. When expressing our frustrations and concerns to Anthony, Anthony would pass blame to his employees and explain how they had failed to do this or that. Anthony and his crew would often let themselves into our tenants’ suite upstairs without giving notice to our tenants. This was an issue we had to smooth over with them and was completely inappropriate for Generation to do. A month after our first promised move in date, we decided to move in. The basement still was incomplete, but it now had carpet and a nearly finished bathroom. The kitchen was still unfinished and the rest of the basement was far from finished. At this point Anthony had 90% of our money for 60% of the job. It didn’t seem like this job was a priority for Anthony and we worried that this job would not get done. Shortly after, something happened between Anthony and his employees. His foreman took over the project and we did not see Anthony for quite a while. His foreman began putting in countless hours for us trying to get this project done. He did fantastic work and we really loved the care he put into everything he did. About 6 weeks after the promised due date, Anthony fired his foreman and progress on the basement came to a halt. 10 weeks after the promised completion date, Anthony finished the kitchen to our basement and we decided that this was good enough. We wanted to be rid of him and finally have a home to live in. Various things were left incomplete including our laundry room (which was supposed to be completely insulated and dry walled, but was not). Ethernet cable was not run into the suite (there is Wi-Fi, but we were promised a few physical locations to plug into).
I do not think it was Generation Contracting Inc.’s intention to screw us over. Overall the quality of work is quite good. Everything they did was to code. The experience of working with them, however, was a nightmare. They were disorganized. Miscommunication between Anthony and his employees was more common than not. They did not respect our tenants. At the end of the day, it took ten weeks longer than they promised. I don’t think they had ever taken on a project this big before and they weren’t up to the challenge.

Fencing and Patio Concrete work

I contracted Anthony and the crew of Generation Contracting to replace my entire fence surrounding my yard. I also contracted them to pour a new beautiful stamped coloured concrete patio and new side-walks. All three projects were competed as priced on time and on budget. Complete professionalism would be putting it mildly with this crew. I would HIGHLY recommend Generation Contracting for any renovation or concrete project. Anthony and his crew are TOP Notch .... I plan on having them do additional work for me in the future!

basement completion

Anthony and his crew did an amazing job finishing our basement! They were professional, friendly and courteous. Anthony's suggestions along the way were well received and we were able to discuss the work that was being done as the project progressed. The basement completion has added the extra living space we desired!
