Replaced roof and did fascia and down spouts

My storey is pretty much the same storey as the review below. Here is what Shingle King Roofing with Vaughn Hunt did for me in an area no one can see when he did my fascia. He set a very low price to do all the fascia and downspouts for $500 then I had to pay him 3 X more to get the job done just for the labour. I did not have the eve-troughs done.

I had just read some reviews on him and one person said that Vaughn picked up his roofing material with his truck after he paid for it and took off with it and never did the job. It was free material for Vaughn's next job. He has property out in BC that he makes trips to and probably stores the material that his customers pay for. I could have done the same to me but I picked up the material myself. I had to go back and get another $1000. worth of materials for him to do my roof after I thought he had estimated enough to do the job. But then I can't prove he took any of it for his next job that would call for it later on.

When Vaughn came to my door after I waited 9 months for some other company to get the material to do my roof that was hard to get because it was class 4 Vaughn said he could get it. I told him I wanted an invoice before he got started but I made the mistake of buying the material first and while I was getting loaded up with it he took off and went back to my place and started ripping shingles off to get his foot in the door. I never did get an invoice after constantly hearing every excuse for not giving me one.

Meanwhile he sets up his radio everyday and plays Gospel music, calls me his brother for the whole neighbourhood to see. Then says he will pray for me that God will not do something very bad to me if I don't pay him everyday after doing some work which he said I could pay after it was all done.

All I can say about them is to stay as far away from this company as you can but if you get them to do the work the money he will save you will end up costing you a little bit more than if you got someone else. He needs that money to help his son who is addicted to heroin so he says and that he uses his son to do the roofing for him which he said he is very fast and good at doing.

So now that I know how good Shingle King Roofing is and especially Vaughn Hunt I plan on posting very good reviews for him everywhere I can to help him out. I hope that he does well with ripping senior citizens who live with a very limited income that have to draw out an extra $2400. a month from the savings just to make ends meet like me and that all the good he does will come back to him someday. It will only cost me about $700. more for some other company to come here and fix the things Vaughn left behind after getting paid to do them

Before finding out about the fascia he did not do I called him about ten times to come and back and clean out the eve-troughs of all the mess he left in them which he wanted $50. to do he has not come back nor will he ever do.

Redone:

Shingle King Roofing came to my door and asked if I needed my roof done. Vaughn said that he would do all the labour for the roofing for $3500. and another $500. for the labour of the fascia, downspouts, adding support screws for the old eve troughs and cleaning them out after as well as the yard and haul the old construction material away to the landfill. He said I could pay him after he finished the job.

I asked for an invoice before he got started but all I got was an estimate for the material from the Roofing store. I made the mistake of going down there with him and buying the material first. While I was getting loaded up with the material for what I thought was for the whole job he took off and said he was going to do up the invoice and went back to my place and started ripping shingles off my roof. I never did get an invoice after constantly hearing every excuse for not giving me one.

I had to go back and get another $1000. worth of materials for him to do my roof after I thought he had estimated enough to do the job.

After he finished the roof he started the fascia then started complaining that I was not paying enough for the labour. He said it would normally cost $2500. for the labour. So then I agreed to pay him $1500 for the labour to get the job done which included the chimney band..

He did not finish the chimney band on the side that is hidden that can only be seen when on the roof. He also did not put fascia on the gable of the pop out on the side of the house that is very hard to see from below. He did not clean out the eve-troughs of all the mess he left in them that he said he would do but never did. He did not replace the three fan vents and the rubber around the plumbing vent. He did not seal the open nails after his roofing job.

He constantly asked for cash everyday he worked for his labour. He wanted more money for what he did not do but I would only pay according to what I thought he did so that he would at least complete the job and not walk away from doing it like he was saying he would to do. He said I was not paying enough and not being fair about it all.

I ended up paying $1000. more for material than what he said I would have to pay. I ended up paying him $1500. more to do the work for the fascia, downspouts etc.

It costed me about $1400. for some other company to come here and fix the things they left behind after getting paid to do them. So I will have $2900. more invested in this project than I was led to believe so that Shingle King Roofing could do all this work.

Took off and didn't finish the job

What a disorganized company. I'll keep this point form:

1. Zero trust...the entire job involved the son and father fight about how to do the job
2. They up sold me on gutter covers, but then didn't have the material. Said they'd do it when stock was replenished.
3. Since the job was done except for the gutter covers, I paid in full (huge mistake).
4. Reached out at least 5 times asking when they are coming back to finish the job. Kept giving me a future date, then no-show.
5. No invoice, all cash transactions.
6. Employees were whoever they found that day. Quality was not professional by any means.
7. The father kept wanting to do more work for more money, but didn't even finish the previous job. Hard to keep up with the disorganization.

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY! TOTALLY UNRELIABLE AND POOR QUALITY OF WORK.

Here is my story regarding getting a replacement metal roof installed by a employee at shingle king. I actually met him by trying to purchase a car he was selling which was another disaster but I'll stick to the metal roof install. I discovered thru conversation with the car he did roof installs for a living and we were looking for a roof replacement at the time so he said he would like to give us a install price to do our roof so we said sure. I like the last reviewer had a gut feeling he was full of hot air and make a whole lot of promises he didn't keep. He said he wanted cash up front to pay for the materials which he would pay for and a extra 300 dollars for extra supplies he might need. We didn't feel comfortable with that so we told him we would contact the supplier and pay for it then he could pick it up and deliver it to our address which he reluctantly agreed to. We ordered the product and he said it would be a couple of days and they would start the roof which we were happy about. He showed up the following week with a box of screws and some trim pcs. he said he would pickup the rest the following week because he had to go out of town to price another job then he would start our roof. Next week came he didn't show up and would not return his calls. I phoned the supplier to see if the material was picked up which it was and we never seen him or heard from him again. We assumed he used our order for another job and kept all the money. We phoned him over and over but no response from him. Do not use this company were now out 3000 dollars for trusting him.

Shingle Replacement

Where do I begin? This is a classic example of what not to do when a roofing contractor comes to your door in the winter. I am a first-time homeowner and did not do enough research about roofers and since I couldn’t find any bad reviews about this company, I gambled on the hope of getting a decent roof at a sweet price. What I got was sub-par quality and more than four months of grief and stress just to have all the work completed as we agreed upon – and it is still not done! I trusted my gut on this one and it might be the only time in my life where it failed me miserably. Below are all the things that went wrong with the job:

- Came to my door in February claiming he had to move a lot of product and could give me a price well-below the industry average;
- estimated the work from the ground;
- no contract up front, no insurance provided, contract was hand written three weeks later after much pressuring and was written on letterhead of his supposed shingle supplier;
- claims his work is "guaranteed" for 20 years;
- virtually no professionalism;
- boasted of doing dozens of houses in the area. He even drove me around the neighborhood and showed me the work;
- did a poor job overall (no ice damming on first row in many places, exposed nails were left, some not driven all the way in, some nails overdriven, installed drip edge on after shingles were placed, caps had to be redone because they were crooked, didn’t overhang leading edge far enough into many troughs causing the water to leak between troughs and fascia);
- asked for cash only as needed as job progressed at a glacial pace;
- roofers were caught drinking on the job and were conveniently throwing their empty cans and bottles into my attic (they were let go even though I had to clean out my attic);
- worksite was a complete mess (only rectified after repeatedly berating the owner to clean up the job site)
- extremely slow and poor work ethic (took almost 3 weeks to do a basic roof -weather was a very limiting factor considering this February in Calgary was one of the warmest in recent memory)
- complete inability to meet any deadline provided (crews would show up at whatever time they felt like it – usually after frost melted but sometimes later in the day)
- terrible project management skills – did not procure enough materials in advance, did not rent a bin, left garage on yard for days, shingles were hand-delivered up the ladder, etc.)
- does not return calls;
- Since the shingling was done at the end of February, I gave him six weeks to come back and figure out a way to get the water to drain into troughs, he has committed six times to dates to finish the outstanding work and each time he hasn’t shown up, or call to say he won't be there and then offers little to no explanation as to why he won’t get it done.

Do not use this company by any means no matter how sweet of a deal he offers you. It is embarrassing to even write about this but I do not want anyone else to have potentially go through anything like my wife and I have. Spend the extra few thousand of dollars to get the job done right and avoid the headache.
