Bathroom and Closet Millwork
PDT Woodworking (Daniele) approached our architect to bid on our bathroom (custom vanity and medicine cabinets) and closet millwork (large dresser and full closet system) at a cost of approximately $17,000. Architectural drawings were provided and stain samples were selected. Although Daniele was initially very responsive, when it became apparent that several mistakes were made and significant quality issues identified, he stopped responding to calls and emails. The work site was an absolute mess (wood shavings, metal shavings, broken glass) and the work was partially complete. When we finally got Daniele on the line, several times he committed to coming back to finish but ended up not showing up. After several months of trying to chase him up, we were finally forced to hire another millwork provide to replace the unusable, half finished vanity, the damaged medicine cabinets and have all of the slides in the dresser replaced and reinstalled. The replacement / repair work cost us over $6,000. In hopes of avoiding small claims court, we proposed a refund of $2,500. Daniele finally agreed to refund $2,500 at the start of April 2014 but after four extensions (none of which he proactively asked for but as a result of him committing to a date then not making the payment), he has still not met his obligations.
Having completed three major renovations, we have never had an issue like this with any of our trades. Unfortunately we are now forced to proceed with a small claims filing.
