In August 2013, we needed a new flat roof and shingled roof. We shopped around and found that many roofing companies do not repair flat roofs. John from Certain Seal assured us that his company could do both types of roofs. His quote seemed fair and there were no Better Business Bureau complaints. My wife has difficulty writing. He assured her that it did not matter who signed as long as one of us did. So, I signed a contract with Certain Seal Roofing. The fact of the matter is that they have been giving us the run-around ever since.
After the flat roof was completed, rain leaked into the living room damaging the floor, the ceiling and one wall. John, the “President” of the company, came to see the damage, repaired the flat roof section and promised to make repairs to the interior in the spring. During the thaw in January, 2014, the shingled roof over the TV room started leaking where 2 of the vents had been removed and an ice dam built up. We called but received no reply. We called again; he never called back, never came to see the damage, but sent someone to install a roof vent. We started thinking, uh-ho.
In the spring, we filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. Two months later, Certain Seal’s Accreditation had been suspended. By now we knew for sure that there was something wonky about these guys. But we had spent a lot of money. So, we continued to try contacting him by email. When he finally came to “fix” the flat roof section for the second time (in the rain), he took pictures of the damage inside the living room only (not the TV room) and said he would contact his insurance agent. During the next 4 weeks, we tried to call and email him, with no response. The Ministry of Consumer Services, Consumer Protection Branch advised us to send a registered letter.
I’m sorry that this review is taking so long. But I need for you to get a very clear picture that it’s been a nightmare, and it gets stranger still.
We received a reply from Doug, the "vice-president" of the company who also just happens to be a lawyer. He won’t deal with my wife because she did not sign the contract. I replied a month ago and I’m still waiting for him to contact us.
All this is because John/Certain Seal Roofing did not know what he was doing and tried to cover it up, and drag it out.
This isn’t finished yet.
