WARNING - DISHONEST SERVICE PROVIDER!!!
I came home from work to learn that our upstairs toilet (simple, inexpensive, basic toilet) had cracked. My wife had called Alex at The Toronto Plumber.ca to fix this toilet due to plumbing issues. He told her that this had to be replaced before a flood happened, and replacing the basic toilet would cost over $1000. He advised her to act fast and give him a $400 deposit so he could get started. My wife did not know she was being obscenely overcharged and she wanted to protect our house from flood, so she signed the invoice and gave the $400 deposit. I have the invoice to prove all of this.
I got home and learned what happened and I was furious. My wife was very upset to learn that she had been obscenely overcharged and she called Alex. Knowing that I was around during the phone call, Alex told her that he would cut the cost of all his services by more than 50%, and he would reduce his total bill for the toilet and all work to $500, tax included - cash only. This was still more expensive than most basic household toilets with installation, but it was no longer obscene. I let the matter go.
He came back the next day to install the toilet, which he told my wife cost about $250. He then reneged on his offer to reduce his fees to $500 all in, threw in a bunch of extra fees, and told her that he needed another $300 cash to install the new toilet. He told her he would not do the work unless my wife gave him $300 cash. He already had $400 of our money, so she gave him the extra $300 because she did not know how to handle the situation. He put the toilet in and left with $700 cash. He did not even provide an invoice or receipt to acknowledge that work had been completed and that he had been paid.
I came home again and found out what happened. I do not have an invoice or receipt to prove that this guy installed a $250 toilet for $700 - cash, but I do have the original invoice for over $1000 for the same services.
Other consumers please be warned! This man is dishonest and is taking advantage of consumers. I see that a number of Home Stars reviews have been removed. I would treat the positive reviews with skepticism. This man's actions speaks for themselves - and so does his >$1000 invoice for a basic new toilet. Stay Away from this guy.
