I provide flawed work and you pay me good money !
I am extremely sorry that I did not read the first review about this company before hiring them.
It describes almost identically my story with same owner of Heavenly Floors (better called” Floors from Inferno !”) I am afraid that the positive reviews are written just by family and friends as I have never experienced an individual so callous and so irresponsible as Bill.
I have ordered a new floor for my house from a Toronto based floor vendor.
Bill came to cash 50% of the agreed amount and told me to make sure that it is a “click” floor! I asked him to call the vendor himself and make sure that vendor, client and installer speak same language and have same understanding of the terminology used by an industry with which I am not familiar. As he did not call the vendor, I called him myself and asked for a “click” floor as per Bill’s request. The vendor (another charlatan) said “no problem” and 6 weeks later (!) the floor arrived at my door.
Upon inspecting the floor, Bill praised its superior quality and he enthusiastically exclaimed: “What a good quality of flooring you got!
Then, him and his brother start taking apart the old floor which took the entire first day of work.
Second day Bill came just for few hours as he had to attend a family gathering, and Mike, his brother, worked pretty much all by himself. He installed the floor and as he was about to leave, I have noticed major flaws in the installation: flexes and uneven portions in the floor.
When confronted, Mike said that Bill will be back next day and that this is fixable.
Next day indeed, Bill showed up and my daughter, who is an interior designer, came too to take a look at the floor.
To our horror, my daughter noticed that the floor installed was not the floor I have initially ordered and paid for! The vendor shipped a cheaper quality and when challenged he said that “click” signifies a different quality and that this is the one I (at my installer’s advice) have asked him to order.
The confusion around the type of floor has been generated by Bill’s lack of knowledge and his misuse of term "click". Also, by the fact that he refused to clarify the matter with the vendor.
Bill asked me for another 300$ and said that he will wait for me to sort out the “type of floor” matter with the vendor. A couple of days later I told Bill that he has to come and fix the floor and finish the job as my dispute with the vendor will take a long time and anyway, the current deficient installation is a different matter then the misunderstandings I have with the vendor around the order.
All of a sudden Bill begins to blame the quality of the floor claiming that it is poor and cheap but at no point did he signal the fact that this type floor is not suitable for being installed in an old house such as mine. If true, a veritable professional would have said:” I am sorry, I cannot work with this material as I cannot take responsibility for the outcome of my work”.
The problem is that this type of floor is not of poor quality and CAN be installed in an older house but requires a more complex installation based on a subfloor made of plywood and Bill did not bother putting an extra effort and time into the job, in fact, working with respect and professionalism.
I have insistently asked Bill to come to fix his botched job it but he refuses and seems uninterested to honour the terms of our contract.
I wonder if the fact that I am a single woman emboldened Bill to act so dishonestly ?
I have now to start all over again, have Bill’s installation removed, pay a different installer and cross my finger not to end in the loony bin! It is for the first time in my life I experience such dishonest behaviour from a contractor.
