I am extremely satisfied with Josh's advice, his workmanship and attention to detail. This is the fourth job he has done on the street and I'm sure everyone is as pleased with his work as I am.

Two years ago we bought a house we really liked, partly because it had an unusually large backyard. We spent the first year upgrading the inside of the house, and we didn't get as much use out of the backyard as we could have anyway. Then our kid arrived and the closer he gets to walking, the more urgent it became to replace the crumbling fence on one side, the rotting deck with the tons of mysterious dirt underneath it, the gondola that had also become a safety hazard with boards warping and nails jutting out, a messy crabapple tree greatly beloved by the neighbourhood raccoons...

We looked for landscapers highly rated on this site, and Josh came up. He came last year to give us a quote, and told us that if we were demolishing the deck, we might like to have a stone patio and stone stairs, which sounded pretty good. Then we had some blips with funds and had to do some plumbing work, so we ended up waiting an extra year.

Josh came back and his crew, including Mike, Mack, and another great guy whose name I don't remember, worked for two weeks on this project, dealing with various surprises with ease: once the dirt under the deck was removed it turned out the foundation needed parging; there were several surprisingly thick slabs of concrete set up around the yard that had to be destroyed, etc. The end result is not especially fancy, because that is what I wanted - a simple, usable backyard with tons of play space, and that's what I have now. The price was completely fair for the work. Surpassed my hopes.

In 2014 Josh and his team gave our backyard a complete overhaul and we're thrilled! To make the backyard bigger, they pushed the fence back, relocated the path, installed an interlock path and patio, made a small garden with a retaining wall, relocated a cedar and planted a new maple tree, and put down sod. In addition, they re-built our upper deck completely, redesigning it to make it more functional, bigger, prettier, and safer. The project was then finished by refacing all of the existing fence panels to match. We're very much enjoying our new backyard as a nice space to relax, entertain, and a safe, fun place for the kids to play.

We hired Joshua Bickle of Harbord Valley Landscaping to do our backyard renovation on the recommendation of a neighbour. Word of mouth is so important & we were not disappointed! We needed our backyard patio completely redesigned as well as the front yard to allow for parking another car. After a lot of research, we had Josh and Blake come in to handle the project. In short, they did a magnificent job and succeeded in transforming both the patio and the front yard. They delivered on time and exactly as we wanted. We recommend them highly for any sort of landscaping project as they put a lot of heart and passion in everything they do. In fact, when our neighbors saw the work that Josh and Blake had done for us, they contracted Josh to build a deck in their backyard.

Each year, Joshua has worked on a new project in backyard. He started with a new fence that has transformed by yard. It's gone from a chainlink fence and space that I never used to a very private and updated yard. In the second season, he created storage space under my deck and added in a new stone walk. It cleans up my yard and I'm really pleased with the results. He's a hard worker and really affordable. Best of all, his work is excellent and I'm having him back for a third year.

Sick of not being able to properly get out of the car due to a narrow retaining wall that was also bowing (must have been a major design/structural flaw), my fiance and I decided we had to do something about it. After several quotes and meetings with other contractors, we decided to go with Harbord Valley/ Garden Gnomes. Boy were we happy we did! Not only did we decide to do our retaining wall but we also ended up doing our whole front landscaping which included an interlock driveway, natural stone steps, and an Ipe walkway. What a fantastic job they did. No kidding! Check out the pics! Tristan and Josh are nothing short of professional. First, Tristan did a CAD design based on our ideas we discussed and his own suggestions which we loved. He must have visited our place at least three times before we finally agreed on a design we liked. Talk about patience and dedication without even knowing he'd get the job. They worked within our budget and always suggested cost saving ideas as the budget was very tight. After hammering out details and signing on with them, they started two days later and showed up everyday rain or shine. The level of detail and professionalism really surpassed our expectations and their knowledge about landscaping, arboriculture and horticulture was refreshing. They cleaned every evening before leaving, so that there was the least amount of dirt/mud possible which is very important since our house on the side of the street with a sidewalk. We would highly recommend Harbord Valley/Garden Gnomes Landscaping as their main goal is the customer satisfaction and not to rush the job to move on to the next one.

Josh did a wonderful job in renovating our front walkway. He replaced our old uneven bricks with courtstone paving. He also put in new stone front steps and rebuilt our deck walls that had been falling apart. There were a lot of extra little details involved and Josh made sure that the work was of the highest quality and done to our exact specifications. The job was a challenge in that we wanted everything to look new and modern, yet rustic and urban at the same time. Josh was able to achieve this with his advice on the materials and design choices we ultimately made. The initial quote was reasonable and was held to for the final price. When it was all finished, many of our neighbours passing by stopped to compliment how beautiful and professional everything looked. I definitely recommend Josh and Harbord Valley for any landscaping job.
