Expensive Sink "Repair"

I chose this company because they were the first to respond to my service request, had great reviews, replied with a good message, and were available the next day. They charged me a lot for an easy "repair" of a leaking pipe under my kitchen sink. I scheduled the appointment for the following day b/t 12-4pm. They called me at 3:30pm that day to inform me they were running late and couldn't make it for at least another 2-hrs. A 4-hr window is not enough? I rescheduled for the following day b/t 10am-1pm. The plumber arrived at 10am with no flashlight and used his cell phone light to inspect under my kitchen sink. He quickly discovered that the pipe had loosened apart, causing the leak. He hand-tightened the pipe back together and tested that the leak was gone. He then put together 2 quotes for a) fixing the hoses for my dishwasher and b) fixing the hoses and rebuilding the pipes for my sink. I declined both because the prices were not worth the possible leaks. Both quotes had the same items for fixing the hoses, but the quote with only the hose fix was $70 more than the same items for the hose fix in the quote for both pipe and hose fix! He then charged me $185 + GST for his half-hour "repair", saying that was the minimum amount for a basic sink repair. That's equivalent to $370 an hour! I haven't hired many plumbers in my time, but that seems too expensive. I hired an independent plumber last year and paid him $75 to uninstall an old toilet, install a new toilet, and haul away the old toilet. That 1.5-hrs of work was a lot more plumbing than this 0.5-hr sink "repair"! The plumber from Plumbing Paramedics would have forgotten his work bag when leaving had I not reminded him. He emailed me the 2 quotes, along with a "360 Inspection Checklist" that he had marked that I declined, but had never offered to me, within an hour of leaving. However, it's been over 2 days and he has not emailed me my receipt for the $185 "repair", so I don't even have a receipt for it! I feel ripped off and cannot recommend Plumbing Paramedics.

Approximate cost of services:
$185.00

Company Response

Hi Shaun, sorry you didn't have a great experience. Thanks to your feedback we were able to address your comments in our meeting that week. Honestly, we never considered someone might not like us using a cell phone as a flashlight. I guess to the technician it's an easily accessible, bright, rechargeable light source that fits almost anywhere. Going forward we've required the technicians to use stand alone flashlights. We also reminded everyone to double check that the receipt actually went through before departing the job. As far your concerns about price, we understand where you're coming from. Unfortunately in todays world, everything is more expensive than it was even a year ago. Being a fully licensed and insured plumbing company with licensed Journeyman, we have certain overhead that prevents us from doing jobs for $75. We're sorry that you feel ripped off, it's not our intention. We'd be glad to discuss it further if you'd like to call anytime. 403 452 2911. Have a nice day.
