Johnson Probe

Last year, I contacted Mr. Johnson to see if he would be interested in presenting, about improving energy and heat efficiency within our homes, to all of our grade 7 students. He came out and spoke with over 180 students for the day. His understanding and credentials gave the students an opportunity to see how our science topic areas had real world connections. He was gracious enough to allow the students to use tools of the trade to assess the insulative qualities of different materials used in their popsicle stick framed homes. He enthusiastically agreed to come to our school again this year to share his time and knowledge with the students. Since most homes in our school community were constructed late 1990's -2000's, I agreed to have a inspection of my 70's built bungalow to help show differences in building envelope styles, to help lend more real world connections to his presentation. His evaluation process and techniques were thorough and effective. He then provided a very detailed report that included ways to improve efficiencies around the home and reduce energy costs and consumption. Even though my assessment was to benefit student understanding, if the government every reinstates the renovation process, I would gladly pay the full amount to have my home inspected again. I have already recommended friends and colleagues to get their homes assessed by him.
