We hired Bigalow Construction to build a new back deck and fence. Sam and his team understood our design ideas and set to making them happen quickly and with a high degree of skill and professionalism. He was dedicated to making sure we were satisfied with the work and set to completing any small changes quickly and efficiently. He and the team were very creative when faced having to work in tight spaces or around trees. We are thrilled with the results and would recommend Bigalow Construction without hesitation.

We are first time homeowners and we embarked on our first renovation experience last Fall. The scope of the project was a full gut of our mainfloor, the removal of load bearing walls, new windows and doors, flooring and a new kitchen.

This was a big investment and we approached it carefully. We interviewed and got quotes from five contractors. We chose Sam for a few reasons: 1) high praise from previous clients, 2) excellent communication skills, and 3) the quoted pricing was competitive for most areas of the job.

Sam lived up to expectations and we were very pleased with our decision. Throughout the project Sam was responsive, thoughtful in his approach to problem-solving, transparent and always willing to fix any issues of concern (which were few and far between).

We were also lucky that Sam was incredibly patient. The high level of investment and the fact that this was the first time going through the reno experience meant that sometimes decisions took longer than expected. Throughout the project Sam worked with us to adjust timelines.

There is one problem you will face in working with Sam - he is in high demand and will continue to be - so you may have to wait for him to get to work on your job.

My husband and I initially hired Sam to do a main floor renovation to our bungalow. After much thought we decided to do the whole house. Our project included removal of two load bearing walls, kitchen gut, new hardwood floors throughout, new closet doors, laundry room renovation, adding a four piece bathroom in the basement. The whole project took us about four months. We lived in the house during the renovation which was a challenge but unfortunately we had no choice. Sam is great to work with as was his crew. They were always considerate of people being in the house as well as a very large dog. Sam was great to bounce ideas off of. He always kept our budget in mind. He gave us very detailed invoices. Unfortunately closer to our end date we had a water come into the basement with all the spring rain. He was able to get us a company to come in and waterproof the basement within a week. Sam was truly great to work with and I would recommend him to anyone.

Sam is an extremely efficient contractor who is able to manage a project with very little input. We had no need to micro-manage the project and when an issue arose Sam very effectively laid out all the options as well as their price points. The budget stayed true to form throughout the entire project and the extra's that were added in by us the homeowner were worked into the contract at very little extra cost.
Sam also understands how interrupted a family can be by a home renovation and worked hard to smooth any additional stresses caused by the upheaval.

Sam was extremely helpful with our office renovation. This was a big job to take on and Sam executed a seamless and beautiful job. The project entailed a full demolition; removing walls and flooring, installing a new custom kitchen and floors, creating new boardrooms, building custom moveable stadium seats, custom reception desk and shelving. Issues arose on our end that were out of Sam's control and he was always there to help with a solution and was easy to communicate with. He was very detailed with his invoices and upfront about costs. Even after the job was finished, Sam was there to help with any small asks. Our team could not be happier with our lovely new office space. Our employees are enjoying the new kitchen and office so much and overall Sam was great to work with!

My husband and I hired Sam to oversee the gut renovation of our condo downtown Toronto. We chose Bigelow Construction among several firms we interviewed based on the detailed quote Sam provided and his outstanding communication skills. Our project entailed removing walls to create an open concept layout, install new flooring throughout, smoothing of the popcorn ceiling throughout, creating a brand new kitchen with relocated plumbing and electrical, two new bathrooms including a custom shower and expansion of the master bathroom, assembly of custom closets in the master suite, and new windowsills.

While the quality of the work speaks for itself, Sam was also a joy to work with. Throughout the process he was invested in transforming the condo into a home we would love and that would meet our needs. We especially appreciated Sam’s humility and the expert trades people that he works with. We felt that our space, belongings, and vision for the desired outcome were respected throughout the process.

Sam answered our countless questions, became a favourite among our building staff, helped us navigate all of the decisions related to design and materials, and managed our expectations surrounding budget and schedule throughout the project. The care he puts into his work is evident, and he gives the impression that the level of detail would be the same same if it were his own home he was working on. He stands behind the quality of his work, and has been personally available to address any questions or issues we have had since the completion of the project.

We couldn’t be happier with the result, and have not hesitated to refer Sam to our friends and family. Our biggest regret is not getting to regularly visit with him now that the work is finished. We look forward to working with him again on future projects.

We were very happy with the work that Bigelow Construction did for us in the summer of 2015. They did an interior renovation of a bunkie which required new flooring throughout, new kitchen and new bathroom fixtures. Sam also built some beautiful pine half walls which look amazing. His finishing carpentry is superb. I would definitely recommend this company to anyone looking for a great job with attention to detail, sticking to the budget, and staying on schedule. We just completed a major renovation (‘gut job’) with Sam from Bigelow Construction. To say we are thrilled with the outcome is an understatement. Sam has many good qualities but I would rank honest and forthcoming as the most important since they seem to be a rarity in this business. The project involved complete gutting of a three story town home in the heart of downtown Toronto. We wanted a high end look so we can get good rental income but we didn’t want to break the bank. The outcome is stunning. Sam worked pretty independently with his trades. He updated us regularly but didn’t need us to push him to do things or be on top of him. He worked diligently to get the project done in a timely manner. The quality of his work is excellent. Overall, we are thrilled with him and his work and would definitely hire him again for future jobs.

My wife and I recently opened a gym. We contracted Sam to install install three bathrooms, lay rubberized floor throughout the space, and various other things. After receiving several quotes for the job Sam came back with a very reasonable estimate which gave us great value for our dollar. Sam was very professional through the whole process and worked with is when we encountered some delays on our end. Overall we are very pleased with the job and would recommend Bigelow construction to anyone looking for a reasonably priced hard working contractor who knows his stuff.
