I live in a Victorian house in the west end where there is always something needing fixing. We had trouble for years with my sons' bedroom door hinge kept coming out of the frame and falling off mostly because it hadn't been hung properly in the first place. After several people tried to fix it and made it worse the frame had disintegrated and the last time the heavy wood door fell off a big chunk came off of the door too. I had another person tell me the whole frame should be ripped out and replaced and I should buy a new crap hollow door to put in.
Rick on the other hand has huge respect for old houses and is very clever at fixing what is already existing. He managed to just cut out the bad bits of the frame and insert new pieces of wood and even managed to rescue the old door by adding a bit of wood so smoothly that once it is repainted you won't be able to tell. He hung the door very nicely despite all the wonkiness of crooked everything and my sons' are thrilled to have an actual door that swings and closes without falling off! It is good as new, or old should I say? He was very tidy and efficient doing the whole job in 4 hours.
He can be a little hard to get a hold of but it is worth the perseverance.

Thank you for not wanting to put in a new hollow core door! This was a job that comes up very infrequently, but is immensely fun to figure out and do.
