The good: the quality of work was good. The crew knew what they were doing, and did a good job. All inspections passed the first time.
The bad: it took forever. Our job required structural engineering. The sub-contracted draftsman took about 4-5 months to complete his work (which was two pages of fairly simple drawings), and didn't seem to have anything done until I started calling him directly. Engineering was a similar story - it took several months. It was 9-10 months before Gil at MAK Moore was able to give me a quote. The quote estimated 5 weeks for completion of the project. In the end, it took 15 and a half weeks - more than triple the estimated time, although the job went smoothly when they were actually here. Gil and his crew simply wouldn't show up for days/weeks at a time, with no communication about when they'd be back until I asked. On one occasion, I found out that Gil was in Hawaii on a two-week vacation - one week into the vacation when I texted him to find out where he and his crew were. We heard lots of excuses over the 14 months (start to finish) it took to get the job done, but in the end we were left feeling that he was just stringing out our job to use as "filler" in between other contracts.
In the end, the job ended up on budget. The worksite was left approximately clean most days. Due to the excessive delays, we had more damage to our lawn (which was used as storage for materials) than we would have liked. Overall, we're disappointed, and will not be calling MAK Moore for our next job.
