DO NOT SHIP WITH THESE GUYS...

I guess you get what you pay for... I hired these guys to ship my furniture from Toronto to Calgary (Oct, 2013) for my move... they are very sweet to take the order and the price was good. But, then everything went south from there...

They were supposed to pick my stuff up on Saturday and I specifically mentioned I need the items picked up between 1 and 4pm as I had to book the elevator (being a condo). They also confirmed a day before, that they will pick up my stuff between 1 and 3PM. And they showed up at 5PM ! I had to literally beg my security to allow me to use the elevator. Their planning dept. SUCKS BIG TIME. I couldn't get hold of a single person to talk to ... on Saturday. I was left at the mercy of the truck driver to keep me posted on what's going. The truck driver mentioned that he talked to his manager and he'll call me to explain the situation. But, I never got the call.

They promised the furniture will be delivered in Calgary within 7 to 10 days, 2 weeks being the max. And they took 22 days to deliver it. That's because they kept my stuff in Toronto for over a week. And their customer care is utter useless. They never had any clue where my furniture was. They gave me a different delivery date everytime I called them. And you never get to talk to anyone twice. I finally was able to get a Calgary number who they contract out the delivery to. They gave me a firm date and stuck to it.

The initial Toronto pick up was contracted to Blue Star in Toronto and the delivery was contracted to Mid-West in Calgary. The people who picked up and dropped off my stuff did an amazing job. They were very careful and detailed in handling my furniture. But, GreenLand Moving is a BIG NO NO. Please take my advise and stay away from this company. If you want your furniture moved peacefully without any mental torture, don't trust Greenland Moving !!

moving

I hired Greenland to move a number of my boxes from Ontario to Vancouver. It was done professionally and in a timely manner, exactly as they said it would be done. Ocean Van lines took over the move in Vancouver, as I was told would be happening and were very accommodating as to time of delivery etc. I would hire them again!

Worst Movers Ever!

I sent the following to their claims dept. They offered me $60 to cover 2 week of hotel fees:

Your compensation offer is less that satisfactory and I find it an extremely insulting offer. No where in your offer does it take into account any of the costs we accumulated due to the tardiness of your company's delivery. The whole moving process with GreenLand Vanlines has been an exhausting experience which I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy.

The contract I made with Brian W (Sr. Moving Consult) was to move the contents of my house from Saskatoon, SK to Vancouver, BC. The contents were to be picked up between the 20th and 25th of May and be delivered on June 4th, and I was informed that I would have 24 hrs notice of when the pickup and delivery were to occur. I asked about getting a copy of the moving contract, what I was emailed was the confirmation number and pickup details of the move. I received my notice at 9pm on May 22nd that the movers will arrive at 7am the next day, less than 10 hrs warning!

The movers arrived to a larger room full of carefully packed, labeled and weighed boxes and promptly moved them into the trailer. These guys seemed great, they moved our stuff with care, and checked to make sure my wife and I were content with the placement of her antique hand-carved wooden chest (which was filled will pillows and lined with many heavy blankets before getting placed in a large box and marked extremely fragile and this side up). I was assured that the truck was making one more stop in Saskatoon then the off to Vancouver with the load. After the contents of our house were packed in the trailer, I was given the moving contract for the 1st time and an estimated weight of 4000lb - 5000lbs. Our accumulated weight measurements were approx 3300lb not including the sofa, mattress, a carved coffee table and the hand carved trunk.

June 4th had come and went. We didn't get a phone call or e-mail in regards to a delivery, so I called to enquirer on June 5th about the location of our stuff. I was told Brian was on vacation, but Steven could take care of me. I asked Steven about the location of my house and when I should expect delivery. Imagine my surprise when Steven told me the shipment was in TORONTO and he didn't know when it would be delivered! On top of that, the shipment was weighted over 5500lbs! I told Steven that I would like to have the shipment reweighed with myself or my wife present, and was charged the $300 + 3% deposit for the reweigh.

Between June 4th and June 10th, my wife called multiple times to attempt to locate our shipment. Each time she called, either the receptionist of Steven would tell her that they didn't know the location of the truck. On June 11th, I received a phone call from the Greenland accounting asking if I would like to pay the remaining balance owing. I asked about the reweigh of the shipment, and she said the reweigh was already completed (without us present) and the quoted weight was correct, when I asked about the location of my belongings, again she was unable to tell me where the truck was. Naturally I refused to pay the remaining charges and asked to speak with a manager again. Again I was forwarded to Steven who assured me that the reweigh didn't happen, and was guaranteed that my shipment would be delivered by Thursday June 13th. This guaranteed date was very important as my wife had medication that she required packed amongst our things, thankfully we had brought extra medication with us which covered the majority of the days that our delivery was late.

At this time I informed Steven that we were staying in a hotel (June 4th to June 14th), and Steven informed me that we can claim the hotel expenses using the online claim form. It was at this time I got the phone number for the "local" office and Steven's direct extension for future reference.

June 13 we called the "local" office to enquirer about our stuff, and sure enough we we were told that out stuff had arrived and that someone should have called us to make arrangements for reweigh, delivery and payment. We made arrangements for the reweigh and delivery on June 17th. When my wife went to oversee the reweigh of our belongings the delivery staff was excellent, with the only problem being that the hard-carved chest mentioned above was on its end (not "this side up" direction) and it was obviously moved about on its corners as they are damaged (pics available). The reweigh came in at just over 4000lbs, 1500lbs less then the "actual weight" that we were asked for payment for.

The damages that occurred to our belongings were minimal and considering the circumstances of being transported over 7000 km instead of the 1500 km expected. The big exception to this is a 2 inch rip in the side of the sofa (purchased brand new in January 2013) and damages done to the edges of the carved chest (which we didn't claim because we plan to find a high quality, specialized repair person). On the online claims form, we included an estimate to repair the sofa, hotel costs, and the costs of an inflatable mattress and other requirements needed after we left the hotel but before we received our belongings. The response I got was laughable, a $50 offer on over $1100 of expenses accrued because of your companies mistakes. When I refused that offer and asked for another review of my claim, stating that STEVEN TOLD US TO CLAIM HOTEL EXPENSES. It took a full 2 weeks for a reply to my counteroffer, and what I got was my claim amount increased to $60 and told it was a final offer. No name attached, no phone number, nothing.

I'm going to be blunt here, YOUR CLAIMS PROCESS IS AN INSULTING JOKE. In the above experience, how many problems did we encounter? I'll give you a hint, their all marked in red and the total number is nine. Would you do business again with a company which can't deliver your shipment on time, can't accurately weigh a vehicle, doesn't do what it says it will do, and is overall unprofessional. We didn't even get an apology for the inconvenience or extra costs forced upon us.

I would like you to again look this claim over, and tell me honestly that $60 is appropriate compensation for the hardships we've gone though. I would like an itemized breakdown of your claims offer. It would also be nice if there was an name and contact information appended to the bottom of your rely. If I don't receive a signed reply by 4pm Friday, August 9th, I will file an official complaint with the Better Business Bureau and take additional steps towards adequate compensation.

Moving

I moved from Toronto to Halifax,NS. I was estimated $750 for my things to be moved and was charged $2000 in the end. I was told my things would arrive on the 28th of the month so I booked my flight according. My things showed up an entire week early. I was told that if something bad like this happened they would arrange four weeks of free storage, which when my things arrived it turned out that was completely made up.
Then, to top it all off, they lost a number of my boxes. When I emailed them about my lost things my rep Sarah (no last name given, sketchy) told me to email a claims email that doesn't actually exist.
I would never ever deal with this company again and I would warn anyone I know to stay away from them...you get what you pay for.

moving Toronto to Kingston

We don't have many good things to say. We got an estimate that was GROSSLY under the actual cost. This company's website provides a mailing address under the 'contact us' tab for their locations (so you have to try to trick them into telling you where they are located). They showed up a few hours late and didn't call to let us know. Our suggestion, if you decide to use this company, THEY OFFER IN HOME ESTIMATES if you ask. If you don't ask, they don't tell you that it is available. I would not use this company without an in home estimate.

Greenland Movers

Beware!! When I first searched for a moving company what I did not find out was that this company is on a CONSUMER BEWARE list from the Ministry of Consumer Services. They are not members of BBB but there are bad reviews there too - check it out. This company damaged so much of my furniture - the drivers will tell you DON'T WORRY 100% guaranteed - wrong!! My damages to repair and replace are $2700 BUT their policy I find out after is 60cents/lb. So they estimate the weight of the item i.e. 100lbs you get $60 - well not even close to the $1100 to replace the mirrored coffee table. If you want you things stored and delivered unwrapped, dirty and damaged then this is the company for you!
Customer service - they say what you want to hear initially but my experience has been they just don't care and what they cover as far as insurance won't cover your costs.

Great Service

In most of the cases movers always fail to deliver satisfactory. But I was lucky because I had to pay a very reasonable price and in return I got the best possible service. I am obviously talking about Greenland Van Lines. Recently I used them for an office move. Their sales rep Sarah ensured me a timely, safe, stress free and smooth move. Movers of Greenland Van lines kept their word. They performed like real pros and it seemed that they were doing everything effortlessly. I am really grateful to them for arranging such a great move within my limited budget. Thank you Greenland.

moving company

I moved to Calgary almost a year ago, and matters with this moving company are still left unresolved.
They picked up my stuff at the end of August, and we agreed to have it delivered October 1st.
I found out two days before delivery day, that my things were actually still sitting in a storage room in Toronto. It took over a month for them to get our stuff to Calgary. This included many frustrating phone calls (heads up, you rarely get to talk to the same person twice). And when you do get to talk to someone, they say whatever it takes to get you off the phone by making empty promises.
My things finally arrived in November and it was disappointing to see things like my dresser that I had packed, wrapped and taped up in one piece, was broken apart and things missing from the drawers, among other damages to my belongings.
So I followed the company policy, and filled out the damage claim report. It took weeks to get a response from them, and when I did hear back from them, it was an amount lesser than the cost of replacing any ONE of the broken items.
At this point, I just want my experience with this company to be over, I signed and faxed the document back. A couple of weeks later I called to verify they had received the fax, when an associate assured me that they had, a cheque must be in the mail and I should get it in a couple of weeks. I continued to wait, but got nothing in the mail. When I emailed, I got no reply. When I called to speak to someone from the claims department, they told me that they no longer take phone calls, that there was no way of actually speaking to a real person, and to contact that department, you must go through email (which I told her I had tried with no response, she didn't care). Oh- And she hung up on me.
I was furious and just vowed to leave bad reviews and tell everyone I knew about this terrible customer service, until i found an email from them a couple month later replying back to one of my emails, only offering less compensation than the first time. Which if the rates are based on weights, and the damaged weight didn't change, why would their offer change? I emailed back, and ... surprise... haven't heard anything back.
But everyone needs to avoid this company. It is not worth the time and headaches spent dealing with these people. The people are dishonest and as a company take no responsibility for the damages that they cause.

Service/ Long distance movers

I was very pleased with my recent move from Calgary to Toronto with Greenland Van Lines, they were very professional with their services, and management towards my move. I had this company recommended from a relative of mine; coming from a reliable source I decided to not take a risk with others (you can’t trust every company). At first there were a few misunderstandings with my items, but having the positive support from the office, the helpful manager, Steve, was able to get to the bottom of it, and obtain his professional skills to solve the issue. As for the sale representatives were very kind, and patient with me throughout my stressful stages of the process. They gave me comfort, as well as trust with their friendly attitude that my items were in safe hands. Especially Erin, who I cannot thank enough for constantly replying and always giving me feedback on what’s happening to ensure reliance. Since I had this company recommend to myself from a reliable source, I would like to do the same to however is thinking of having safe, stress-free, and secure move.
