Kitchen cabinets

We hired Malcolm, after getting several quotes, based on his suggestions about our design and layout and his approach. We were not disappointed in our decision. He was always on time, his work was of the highest quality, he made several alterations and fixes without any hesitation and he stuck to his quote. We will be getting him to quote on other work around our home.

Cost Efficient Kitchen Refresh

On the reco of two friends, we asked Skip to advise us on some ideas on how to 'refresh' our 20-year-old kitchen. We still loved the old kitchen design and lots of elements were still in good condition (the countertops, tile backsplash and cabinets). Skip provided us with great ideas such as spraying the cabinets, laying a new floating floor over the old one and replacing old track lights with pot lights. We are thrilled with our 'new' kitchen. Skip is very cognizent of budget and does not pressure to spend more. He is very flexible in timing and in doing jobs in stages to space out the costs. His work is impeccable. The spraying of the cabinets is flawless, they look brand new. He is also a great resource for sourcing other trades such as painters. We used his reco'd painter, floor installer and electrician and they were all as talented, trustworthy and reasonable as Skip. And they all leave the house as clean and tidy as they found it! I would not hestitate to recommend Skip for big or small jobs - the work he did for us was relatively small but he did extensive and very impressive custom cabinet work and contracting for 2 friends and they are very happy with his work and have used him again and reco'd him to others.

Custom Kitchen Cabinets

Part of an addition to our older home included a plan to completely gut and replace our kitchen. I had admired work Skip did for an acquaintance, so I asked him to help design and build the custom cabinetry. He understood my vision for the look, and supplied numerous samples of treatments and finishes that could work. As more ideas popped into my head, Skip was agreeable to modify things to accommodate me - even during construction.
I work in the furniture industry and have some knowledge of woodworking. Skip specified and sourced quality materials, finishes and hardware. His measurements, craftsmanship and installation were executed to perfection. He was always prompt, exceedingly careful and wouldn't leave until the space was clean.
An added bonus to my peace of mind during the stress of a renovation was how patient Skip was with the delays caused by other contractors, going beyond the scope of his job to both assist and work around them. I have seldom worked with anyone as meticulous and fair-minded.

New kitchen where a bathroom was

Finding a kitchen cabinet maker that did custom work for a reasonable price with good quality was a very time consuming process. Stop your search now and settle a deal with Skip. He took our rough plan, made interesting suggestions for things we could do (and we thought we had thought of everything!), and built us a beautiful kitchen. He was helpful and meticulous in the details that scared us ahead of time that you can never know for sure how well they will come out. In the end, I cannot imagine anyone else having done a better job, and he was nowhere near either the high prices or the low prices, he was exactly right on.

If you care about the end result and don't want to go bankrupt, hire Skip!

I hired Skip based on the referral from a close friend. I relied on Skip’s expertise to design and build a custom wall unit for my basement that would house a fireplace, my A/V equipment and also have room for whatever else we wanted to display. I had some ideas and some pictures but really had no idea what my options were.

He was very professional throughout the entire process. He was always available to answer my questions and I had a lot, he had plenty of samples on hand to show me what he can do and was very helpful with suggestions during the design phase when I wasn’t sure which way I wanted to go. The final product of Skip’s effort has honestly exceeded our expectations! We couldn’t be happier with it and have already referred some friends to him.

Custom children's bed with built-in cabinets

Skip built a custom bed for my two girls to maximize space in a very small shared room. The bed has 12 built-in drawers underneath the bed. He did an exemplary job. The bed is exactly what I designed and his attention to detail exceeded my expectations.

The bed was not inexpensive, but I do believe you get what you pay for and in this case, it was worth every penny.

Kitchen Cabinets Refaced

We just moved into a condo. We wanted to reface our kitchen to make it more modern.
We met with Malcolm to discuss our dream cabinets and he delivered!
The colour of the wood is a dark espresso - exactly what we envisioned with great stainless steel handles.
Malcolm custom mixed the colour to match a sample we really wanted.
He takes pride in his work and it shows!
Our kitchen is great and we would recommend him to anyone because of the great job he did from start to finish.
He delivered exactly what he said and nothing less!
Thanks Malcolm!!!

We are very pleased to write about Skip's skills. We would like to have him at our beck and call any time we need more carpentry work done at any level of complexity and imagination. Based on a recommendation from a friend we engaged him to do a number of projects ranging from storage units to a fine finished TV piece of furniture. This was in addition to additional cupboards and storage units in our kitchen that perfectly blended in with the existing units. Immediately upon finish our daughter engaged him to build children's beds with storage units below and she and the kids love the results.

In addition to his technical and creative skills Skip is courteous and efficient and, if possible, unobtrusive pre- building as much as possible offsite.

In closing we are very pleased to highly recommend Skip.

Malcolm McGrath was referred to us by Roland Tan, owner and operator of a home decor store called Rumah Tangga. A design idea for the wall unit in our living room came together with help from magazine photos and previous work done by Malcolm and Roland. We specified that our wall unit had to be built using the most environmentally-friendly products and finishes, and Malcolm got to work sourcing them. We have had many compliments on the end product which is absolutely beautiful! We highly recommend working with Malcolm to have your dream design come to fruition. Customer care follow-up to touch up the finish was also excellent.

Last year, Malcolm (Skip) Mcgrath worked with us on two kitchens…one in the house we were selling and onein the house we were moving into. He re-surfaced the cupboards in both as well as did some custom work. We were stunned at the final results! Excellent! Skip gave us several options and supplied appropriate samples. His guidance was a huge help. He also worked within tight deadlines which we really appreciated. We have a great deal of respect for Skip’s professionalism and his craftsmanship and would highly recommend him to anyone.
