Arbutus is very professional and responsible, a few months after the job was completed, a few boards became loose on a deck they built, Magnus sent his crew back and fixed the loose boards. Many trades will say they will come back and fix things free of charge, but very few do.

I would recommend working with Arbutus.

We were very happy with the quality work from Mark and his team. Our old back sundeck was in bad shape and ready to fall apart... literally! Now we have a brand new sundeck which looks absolutely beautiful with a new set of stairs, new rails all around, and the walkway leading to the deck. We also had new rails installed for our front steps.

With quotes from 4 different companies, the reasons why we chosed Arbutus was based on its A+ rating in BBB, its professionally designed brochure, clearance with WorkSafe BC (WCB insured), reviews from customers, we liked the estimator who was personable, knowledgeable and followed up with us with every question PLUS the estimate sheet (price) which was fair and reasonable, within the ballpark and very easy to understand.

Once we paid the deposit, it went like clockwork! Mark kept us informed what was going on on a daily basis. All his workers were polite, professional, and answered any questions or concerns we had. There was very little or no stress at all on our part, and the project was finished on time and on budget with no surprises.

A company with great skill and integrity. The cost was below some quotes we received.
Magnus was easy to deal with and certainly knows his stuff. The two-man crew was one of the most professional of any contractor we've dealt with, which is several during lots of reno work in the past three years. Together they improvised on the original plan to reduce costs and make our deck look even better.
We had to wait about seven weeks for the work to commence, which says to me they're not diluting their quality to meet demand.
There was a miscommunication over part of the work, but Magnus took care of it without a fuss. And Mark caught a clerical error, resulting in a lower price. Errors happen, but it's how they get fixed that make a company's reputation. That's why I enthusiastically recommend them, just be prepared to get in line during high season.

I heard about Arbutus Sundecks through a coworker who had work done by them and recommended them. I requested a quote and Magnus was quick to return my call and come to look at my project. I found Magnus to be articulate, friendly and prompt in all of his communication, and he always took the time to explain what he proposed and why. We had several quotes, and Arbutus wasn't the lowest price, however when I had more questions about our quote Magnus didn't hesitate to come back out and go over things again - and he stood behind their scope of work and pricing with confidence in the job they would do. I selected Arbutus and their project as quoted, and Magnus and his crew were punctual in getting the project started and worked through the rot repair and refinishing of our two decks. Cliff was a pleasure to have working on our project, professional and friendly and left our home tidy every day. Arbutus stayed on budget, on schedule, and their work is outstanding. The weather was not on our side and the guys toughed out difficult conditions with high winds, and they went above and beyond to keep our project dry and never complained once. Having previously experienced the worst case in the renovation business, I can say that Arbutus is one of the best and I would recommend them to anyone. I would hire Arbutus again for any future deck work, these guys are professionals end to end.

Mark Harrison and his crew at Arbutus were absolutely terrific (and believe me, after going through a two-year renovation I am a serious expert on the not-so-terrific kind of home improvement project).
These lads, Mark especially, are meticulous and genuinely care about the quality of their work. The work was done on time and on budget - one day the crew worked through a driving, icy rain to get the job done.
And the deck is simply beautiful. Not something I tend to notice, decks, but now it's actually a thing of beauty. And everyone who's stepped into our place has noticed.
Arbutus's on line 'blackboard' program makes it easy to communicate one's comments and concerns during the project (and Mark always replied really fast).
