The Mold Guy, Mold Detection & Removal

Before we fixed a leak in our roof, some mold had developed in the attic. MoldServices answered all our concerns and within a week they came and completed the job. The team was polite, neat and clean. Very satisfied

Mold was discovered in our attic upon a home inspection. I called MoldServices.ca based on ratings seen on Homestars. From the 1st phone call I felt confident that this company were professionals. They didn't let me down. They called the night before the confirm the appointment. Their technicians, were punctual, polite and respectful. They got the job done quickly and efficiently. I liked the idea that they provided a clearance letter as well before and after documentation.

We discovered mold in our attic when we wanted to update our insulation. The first company we called in, a highly recommended group, scared the heck out of us. First off, we were told that that it was really bad up there, that we were risking our health because the mold would start coming through our ceilings. We were advised that the mold would eat through our roof joists and cause structural issues. But to top it all off, they couldn't get their equipment up in our attic and they advised we would either have to remove and replace our roof or pull down all the ceilings inside to remedy the problem. We were worried and upset and did not want either solution understandably! We called in a second opinion and got a whole different story. Don't worry about it, we were told. Just improve the circulation. Given the extreme divergence of these two companies, we called in a third company. Not sure were he came in with his recommendation because he flip flopped between dire and "it's fine" but his quote was nearly double the other two. Finally, I returned to homestar and found Ross from MoldServices.ca. He and Kay ( she took our first call) were clarity in the midst of our caotic week. Given our distress, Ross came out the same day to take a look. As he is also a court expert in mold cases, he reviewed our attic with frankness and a level head. He was neither dire, nor non-chalant. He was very clear on the true nature of the issue and the solution. No, we did not have to replace our roof, and no, while we had to get rid of the mold, it wasn't horrible. The guys just came by today and they were great. They were very carful to wrap our furniture and drap the floors before beginning the work. The acid solution they used worked quicker than they had hoped, so the job did not take as long. They were also hired to open up our soffets to improve circulation, but were totally honest when they could not do the job and discounted that portion of the work. Overall MoldServices is responsive, level-headed and most importantly truthful. They are providing us with a letter certifying the attic is now mold free so our contractors can feel confident when doing our reno for us. Do yourself a favor, if you have a mold issue, big or small, call Ross. He won't play games with you.

After reading the reviews we decided to go with Mold Services, and glad we did. Kay was very informative on the phone and gave us a good overview of the testing they could do once our area was inspected. We had a very tiny area of mold starting in our basement and, with small children, we weren't sure at what point we should be concerned. Ross came over and thoroughly looked over our basement. After testing for moisture throughout, he explained that further extensive testing really wasn't necessary. We had such a small spot that really wasn't of much concern and he told us how we could easily get rid of it ourselves. He gave us good advice for other areas to deal with the prevention of any future moisture issues. Ross was friendly, professional and most importantly, honest. He put our minds at ease and we will most definitely use them again if we need in the future.

We had read reviews from other people, and after talking to Kay and Ross, we were relieved to find that they could do the the job quickly and efficiently.
Lucas, Allan and Phil came to the house on time and treated the house as there own. They answered all the questions they were asked and did the work in the time they said, and cleaned up very well after they were done.
Having this kind of work done is very stressful, but these people put you at ease.

With two newborn babies, we decided to get an air quality test done in an old house we recently bought. After getting some water in the basement this summer, we wanted to be proactive to make sure there wasn't any mold in the walls or air. I called a couple different companies found on Homestars, but decided to go with Mold Services.ca after speaking with Kay. She gave a thorough explanation of the process, the costs, and told me that Ross could be as early as Monday morning (I called Friday afternoon). The price for the initial inspection and air testing was very reasonable compared with the others that I called. Since I only use contractors found through Homestars, I read the reviews and was confident that I made the right choice.

I certainly did make the right choice. Ross arrived on time in an unmarked truck (this was important to me because I didn't want the neighborhood thinking I had a massive mold problem, especially since my call was preventative in nature). He took the time to first listen to my concerns before doing anything. Ross did his inspection thoroughly all the while explaining what he was doing and the different types of molds. Ross answered my numerous questions, was extremely patient, and didn't make me feel like he was in a rush to get to his next appointment.

The following evening I got a call from Ross saying that the results from the air quality testing was very bad. In fact, he said it was the worst he had seen in four years. Despite that, he stayed on the phone with me to calm me down and explain that it wasn't the end of the world and could be fixed. He told me how to interpret the results and what he could do to make sure that the house was safe again. Because the results were no bad, Ross admitted that there was a chance that the sample was not correct. He told me that he would come first thing the next morning to do the tests again and see if the results were different. He arrived promptly at 8am as promised and took the time again to answer my questions and suggest possible reasons for the poor test results. I'm lucky that I used Ross' company for this testing because he did this as part of the original service offered and didn't try to sell me on any cleanup or remediation prematurely.

Later in the day I got a call from Ross telling me that the new testing had come back and everything was perfectly normal. He was confident that these new tests were correct and that there clearly was an error with the first test. Right there Ross demonstrated a significant level of honesty that everyone should expect, but rarely receive. Ross knew I was in a panic, he had initial results that were very poor, and he knew that he likely could have sold me on a major remediation project costing a fortune - and I likely would have believed what he said because of my fear. With that said, Ross did none of those things. In fact, rather than charging me a penny more, he explained to me that he would be happy to help with the minor remediation needed at his standard fee for a day of work - but more importantly, he said that this job was something that I could do myself and save the money. Simply put, Ross is great at his job and has a lot of integrity.

Throughout the process, Ross answered his phone every time I called even late in the evening. He responded to emails promptly and gave honest advice. I always research thoroughly before hiring anyone, so I will save you the time of calling anyone else and simply say that if you want honest, professional, and expert advice for any type of mold problem, Ross and Mold Services.ca is the only company to call. The key is honesty and that goes a long way these days.

Don't bother looking around! Ross, Kay and their team are just super awesome! Very professional, responsive, did an awesome job and the list just go on. The quote they have given me is just a fraction of all other quotes I got from other contractors. Their fee is economical without sacrificing the quality of their job. You've got to call Kay and experience it yourself.

We have used Ross and his team twice now, a mold issue when we sold our old house and then the inspection of the new house which had rain water back up. In both instances the problems were explained clearly and treated quickly and efficiently. We were completely satisfied with the end result. Kay, Lucas, and Ross are very professional & kept us informed every step of the way. Highly recommened!!!!
