3QWe found Mike on kijiji. He was very prompt in responding and pricing a quote. He seemed professional and was proud of his five star rating on Home Stars. I was the one that did all the corespondence with Mike. We explained to Mike that it was a rental property in whitby that was badly damaged by a tenant and we were in a hurry to get new carpet in so we can re rent to try to recover some of our losses. We live in toronto ans have a very busybschedule so all correspondence was via email and phone which took trust on both ends. We established a price including instalation and removal of the old carpet. He finished the job on time and sent pictures which looked great. We paid him without inspecting the job as he did the job without taking a deposit and he had been very professional up to that point. When we went to the property to inspect the job it looked good at first gLance. On further inspection we found he did not out the baseboards back on properly upstairs and only half of them back on downstairs. He left baseboards scattered through ou the house. The closet doors were taken off upstairs and never put back on. When we tried to put them back in we couldn't as the doors and the track were damaged. The closet organisers were also bent and misshapen and a piece of our railing is missing. At this point we were dissapointed but not angry. A couple of days later we went back to the house and opened the garage to discover a whole garage full of carpet and debris. This was unacceptable. We had paid almost a dollar extra per square foot for removal. I called Mike and he seemed surprises and said one of his guys would be by to pick it up in a few days. A few days went by and it was still there. I called back and he gave me a specific date for pick up. The date came and went with no pick up and no phone call. I emailed, text and called several more times. To our dissapointment we had to pay someone $150 to dispose of the carpet today. We will also need to purchase new closet doors and closet organisers as well as spend a week end putting all the baseboards in properly. We learnt our lesson. Always inspect before you pay. We are still baffled at why he did the 180 turn. We upheld our part of the bargain and paid promptly in cash.
