Worry Free Roofing Inc. No Longer In Business

Worry Free is kind of a hit and miss.

Pros-
-They use a great product/system (GAF). For what you'll pay extra for with another company is included in Worry Free's base estimate. This includes a Maxi vent, GAF Timberline shingles, GAF deck armour, drip edge, etc. Most other companies use IKO or BP, both of which are garbage. The only other I'd recommend is Certainteed, which Worry Free also installs and for less money.
-Denis, the owner, is a stand up guy. I had some issues and he was very polite, understanding and took care of the problems.
-The crews seem well trained, though the quality of work they do seems to vary greatly from crew to crew. When I talked to the guys they had about 7 crews so they're able to whip off the houses pretty good. The team that did my house had about 7-8 guys and finished my house in about a day. The crew that did my neighbours homes was only 3 guys and took about 1.5-2 days to do a house. They seemed more meticulous though. So YMMV on the crew you get. They also told me they shoot about 6-8 nails per shingle, where typically it's around 4 in the industry (I think). This just means your shingles are far less likely to blow off.
-The price was very reasonable. For the quality of products they use they couldn't really be beat.

Cons-
-Communication is abysmal. They told me they would come on a Monday so I took the day off to stay home. They never showed up and never told me they couldn't make it. They showed up on a Wednesday out of the blue. (The weather was beautiful for about a week straight, so weather is no excuse.)
-The crew that did my roof seemed young and inexperienced. I wasn't able to stay home and watch what they were doing, but I heard from my neighbour a few things I didn't like. They were pretty vulgar for one and seemed to pay less attention to details compared to the other crew I watched.
-Matt, the salesman, is very knowledgeable and nice at first, but once he closes the deal you'll never hear from him again. Ever.
-The cleanup wasn't the best. I found about 20+ nails on my property, about 7 of those were on the driveway.
-Matt never included an estimate for the drip edge on the pink slip, so it was never ordered or installed on my house when the roof was as a result. They had to come back later and add it, after I noticed and called them up.
-I walked the roof and found a box of staples on the maxi vent (wind could have easily blown it all over my property), nails all over the roof and some flashing wasn't put back properly. In the end they had to come back to fix some things, but they did.

Conclusion
Worry Free isn't so "worry free". They use great materials and can produce a great result at a reasonable cost. I'm very happy with the way my roof looks and I have no concerns about leaks for many, many years. While the effort and frustration it took to get to this point was more than I wanted, I'm happy it's done and am very pleased with the cost and look of the roof.

If I had to recommend one thing it would be to make sure they spell out _everything_ on the contract - product name, quantity, etc.

P.S.- I know about 6 others that went with Worry Free and didn't have any problems.

While I was searching for a roofing company to come and do an emergency repair, there were few that would even consider coming out to help me in the winter, said I would have to wait until Spring. Worry Free Roofing scheduled a time for me to be home and came out within 2 days of my call. When the representative Matt Lee, the Operations Manager, arrived I was pleasantly surprised with his professionalism. He proceeded to climb on to my roof, investigated the problem, and provided me with 3 solutions, all with various pricing. I chose the middle of the road approach and contracted Worry Free Roofing to do the work. Within 4 days my leaking chimney and valleys had been repaired/replaced and I can now breathe a sigh of relief. Thank you Matt and the team at Worry Free Roofing.

We contacted Worry Free Roofing to get a total re-roof done. They were quick to respond and gave us our quote the next day. They sat down with us and explained everything. We were really pleased with our experience to that point and their price was very competitive, so we didn't hesitate to hire them. When it came down to completing the work, we were a little disappointed. It took them 4 days to complete the job, the workers didn't show up on one of the days and we were never advised. We contacted the sales rep and left numerous messages but they never returned our phone calls. When the trash bin was picked up and payment was requested, we mentioned our concerns but the only answer we received was "it is the way it is". This left a sour taste in our mouth. The job was well done, but it shouldn't have taken 4 days from start to finish and we were disappointed with their customer service.

Unfortunately, Worry Free failed to complete the work according to manufacturers' specifications. When the work was completed, the shingles didn't look "right" according to our understanding and the manufacturers literature (and other houses) with GAF/Timberline High Definition Architectural Shingles.

When we contacted the company to express our concerns, we were told there was no problem; it was a matter of perception and viewing angle. However, we could see a small portion of the roof over the garage, and on viewing the GAF Timberline website, observed that the shingles had not been installed according to specifications. We called an independent home inspector, who conducted a thorough review, and concluded that indeed the work had not been done properly.

We presented the report to the company with two options: Redo the work, or refund our money. I suppose it is to the credit of WorryFree that we received a prompt refund, so we are not out of pocket, but we only achieved this by researching and discovering factual information not provided to us by the company. In essence WorryFree delivered shoddy work, passed off our initial concerns as just a matter of perception, and only when we were able to independently document that the work had not been completed correctly, did the company "come clean" and refund our money.

What a great experience and thankfully the came to check out the roof after the hail storm that hit Ottawa.
Gave us all the information we needed and helped us understand the procedure.

We were impressed with the entire process of dealing with Worry Free for our new roof. The sales person was knowledgeable and took the time to explain the features of the products and each item on the estimate. We were not harassed during the time it took to make a decision and get other estimates. Worry Free actually came in the middle of the three estimates we got. We loved that they provided us with a list of addresses for each colour of shingles so we could really see what they looked like... and that the list was broken down into east, west, north, south, so we didn't have to travel all over the city. After we signed the agreement, the roofing team arrived within two weeks and completed the job in two days. The company was quick to address any concerns or questions throughout the process and didn't collect payment until we were completely satisfied. Highly recommended!

Was sold a new roof that I didn't need. The salesman did not go on the roof to even inspect or try to find the source of my leak before he assured me that he knew exactly where the leak was coming from. The leak has turned out to be coming from a piece of siding that has pulled away from my chimney. Pretty obvious when I actually got someone to look at it. It wasn't visible from the ground and I could not go on my roof to find it myself.

It took them four days to complete the installation, when they told me it would take one. On top of that, when the installers first showed up to install my roof they asked me if I had a ladder they could use! A roofing company showing up to work without a ladder! You don't want to hire them!

We hired this company on the recommendation of our next door neighbour, after getting a total of six quotes. We selected them because their price was very competitive (it was not the cheapest, but it was not the most expensive by far...) and their quote was all-inclusive. The estimator took the time to explain the different components of a roofing system, and did not try to "upsell" us on things that other companies called extras but that I knew were part and parcel of a job done right. Most of the other estimates were left on our doorstep without any explanation. On the day of the installation, a crew of 6 arrived at 7AM and had the roof stripped by 10:30. They were polite, hard-working, and the clean-up was excellent. The entire project, including clean-up, was finished by 5PM. The new roof looks amazing, and I would recommend them without hesitation.
