My wife and I had bought a circa 1959 side split bungalow in a mature neighbourhood. The original owner had built a DIY small sunroom on the side of the home. It was the sunroom that cinched the deal for us in buying the home. Unfortunately for us we never realized that the way the sunroom was constructed, it was a "magnet" for carpenter ants. Hence we needed the sunroom removed and something else to replace it. We searched on the internet for architects and I found and hired a very reputable, local architect. It was through this architect that we met Mr. Plageman. The architect actually gave us 3 contractors to contact and interview. Mr. Plageman was the only one who came across as professional and courteous. We just had a good feeling about him and we hired him to build our addition. The architect designed a 14' x 16' room that was to be our new study. With some input from Mr. Plagemen we ended up with a final design that my wife and I were very pleased with. Throughout the whole construction process, Mr. Plagemen was very straightforward regarding costs and the time frame. He brought in professionals to complete certain aspects of the project that he wasn't qualified to do i.e. electrical, roofing, brick work, etc.
He made some suggestions regarding the design based on his long experience in the industry. However, in the end he always asked for our final decision on any changes and respected those decisions. From the colour of the brick to deciding on the use of siding to the pros and cons of re-roofing the entire house, the final decisions were always with us.
We also had him build us a custom built-in bookcase in the new study. Payments made to Mr. Plagemen were done as parts of the project were completed and he explained his costs to us. Receipts were promptly presented. My wife and I had to just sit back and watch as Mr. Plagemen filed for all the permits and built our addition. We were truly pleased with the outcome of this project.
