Manor Renovations

We started the process of finding a renovator in the spring of 2010 by interviewing and getting quotes from four different contractors. Manor wasn't the lowest priced, however we were struck by both their ability to understand our vision and their professionalism. Throughout the renovation, Manor was patient with us and very understanding when we made some late stage changes.

Good communication is something that we truly value, and we feel that Manor places a priority on this as well. Communication was frequent and clear, and they were always honest and forthcoming with opinions and suggestions. However we never felt pressured to choose one option over another. It particularly impressed us that Manor was not afraid to say "I don't know, but will find out for you".

As happens in most renovations of any scale, hiccups can and will occur. Manor was good at adapting and finding some creative solutions to ensure work progressed when we encountered some supplier challenges.

Overall we are very happy with the work done by Manor. Of the many highlights, some of our favorites would be the design work, and the craftsmanship on the custom cabinetry and finishing carpentry.

We had Manor Renovations do a kitchen and basement for us, we have been very happy with the process and the work. Sure there were times when issues came up but they were addressed in a timely fashion.
I learn through this process that a renovation is not as simple as a tv show!!

Nice at first but then deteriated,project took twice as long as they said ,poor cost management.They did not not seem to care about our concerns regarding the cost overruns in the end we were glad to see the back of them.

We had a shingled roof removed and converted to a deck. Included in this was a small bumpout. The job was hellishly slow and disorganized, with high management fees for the amount of managing. The roof came off in Sept, and we took over in January having hit the top of our budget. We completed the interior of the bump-out ourselves. We are now sourcing out other companies to take over the exposed, unfinished exterior in a race with the rainy season. The dollar amount does not include direct payments to companies who did the engineering, electrical, railing systems and the garage door which collectively rang in at approx $15,000.00, or the funds we will still have to spend to complete the job. It felt like we only were given small pockets of time between other jobs and a royal run around when we said as much to them. In a nutshell, a disappointing experience.

Hired this company in 2008 to do a complete reno of our basement. The general contractor that they provided was unorganized and very unrealistic about timeline and budget. The project was supposed to take 12 weeks but ended up lasting 6 months and it was way over budget despite my husband and I trying to source out materials that were under there estimates. Now we have had our new furnace (that they installed) serviced and the furnace company has informed us that the install was never inspected and that all of the venting was not installed to code so the ceilings must be ripped out to have the venting replaced. This was our first major renovation and we learned a lot of what not to do.

My wife and I knew that we were good hands right away when we met with the folks at Manor. We had been planning our renovation for several years and are so pleased with the work that was done. The space is stunning and will be enjoyed for many years to come! Thank you Manor Renovations!

Manor’s profile on the upcoming Calgary Home and Garden show website poses the following question....”Is your renovator a member in good standing of the BBB, Renomark and CHBA?” Presently Manor’s BBB status is currently suspended...check out the BBB site...as they further quote...“The answers to these questions are vital”...and we agree. Manor walked out of BBB mediation regarding our major home renovation project complaint, as a result, their BBB accreditation was suspended on 05/12/2012 due to unresolved complaint(s). After having been back in our home over almost a year, our complaints and financial issues remain unresolved.

Experience started out well, Rick Stimpson was good to talk to, had great ideas but then was passed off to another manager in the company and he was also very knowledgable but as the project started was switched to another project manager - Terrence Patrick and he just really didn't seem to know his stuff. Was quite disorganized and even the contractors seemed to know this. I would ask for specific things and they would get done precisely the way I didn't want them done. Took forever to get all the extra materials to be cleaned up. Over a year later I have never had a final walk through and there is still a lockbox attached to my house for the spare key. Some of the work was well done but my overall experience was somewhat frustrating.
