The Custom Deck Company

The new porch Danny and his son Tyler built for my home is
beautiful -- excellent carpentry construction and finishing. They
were professional and courteous, and worked quickly to complete
the job in 2 days . They kept the area as clean as possible even
when dismantling the old structure. I was very pleased with them
and their work and would highly recommend them for similar
carpentry projects. ( The owner of The Custom Deck Company, Dany,
created the plans for the porch, gave a very reasonable estimate,
and oversaw the project promptly on completion.) This new porch
has improved the appearance of the house significantly, and has
received many compliments -- it really does look terrific !!

Dany and his staff are talented, professional, and great to work with. They have done two custom jobs for our family. Six years ago, they built us a gorgeous custom cedar deck with built-in benches and planters. They did such a great job, we hired them this year to build us a fence. You will not regret hiring this company, they always come through on time, on budget with quality workmanship.

I wanted to get an extension put on my deck. Dany came over and we went through several ideas. I told him that I wanted a bench put in like the one my neighbors have in order to create a larger sitting area and I also asked whether he could make the railing sturdier so that people could actually lean against it (for example if you're leaning against it while nursing a beer). Dany jotted down some notes and essentially told me everything will be good, everything will be new, and you will love it.

When it came time for the job, a nice father and son came and started the work. Everything seemed to be going fine but when I saw the finished project I was disappointed.

First, the bench area *looked* like my neighbors but was not at all structurally built like it. Rather than having the footings of the bench area embedded into the deck so that they guaranteed to last forever, they simply screwed in the legs of the bench onto the the deck. In a few years the entire thing is going to fall off.

Secondly, instead of replacing the railing with new railing, they literally cut and re-attached the old railing back onto the new deck. The old railing is not intended to be tacked onto a new deck and for this reason nothing aligned. The posts were not on the corners like they're supposed to be on a properly designed deck - they were all over the place - in the middle - off center etc.

Finally the small inner pieces of the railings that they provided were too short. It looks terrible.

I told Dany that his guys must have made a mistake because the old railing is on the new deck. Dany told me that that's what we agreed on. Only in the twilight's zone would somebody agree to have old painted railings put on a new deck when it doesn't fit aesthetically and structurally. I explained to Dany that this was NOT what we agreed on and he had his team come back and replace it (albeit with the inner pieces too short).

Later Dany would provide me with what he claims was the original quote he sent me. But the thing is, I have a copy of the original quote he emailed me and it differs from the second one he provided which magically contains the words "relocate railing".

I would never use this company again.

Edit August 9th:

Despite Dany's claim, he has NOT offered to fix the problems. He sent an email inquiring more details about the problem. I responded with photos and descriptions of the issues. Since then Dany has gone silent. Buyer beware.

We are thrilled with our new deck from The Custom Deck Company. Dany, the owner, was professional and knowledgable, and listened to exactly what we wanted, while also sharing his valuable professional input.

The job started and ended on time, the job site was always cleaned up, and the final results are beautiful.

I can't say enough about a the great job Custom Deck did in renovating our deck in June 2016. From the time we met Dany, he put us at ease. He gave us great ideas and provided excellent advice. We are very detail oriented people and he not only met but surpassed our expectations! His crew, including Mat and Jimmy, were the best! They were personable and very skilled. I had received a few quotes from other companies before calling the custom deck co. I was thorouhly impressed with them from start to finish. Dany came by to give a quote within 2 days of calling. On site, he explained quite completely the process and design of the deck. That night he e-mailed me the official quote, complete with drawings. Aside from it being abundantly clear he was a true expert in deck design and building, the quote came in a whopping $2400 less then the next best quote. Between the quote and the start date we had to wait until the city marked our gas/electric/cable lines buried in the yard (which dany had explained). I received a call from dany the day the marking had been completed and we scheduled the start date. The work was completed withing a few days and it looks amazing. Lastly, from the initial quote to the completion I called to talk with dany about 9 times. He answered the phone every time. It is so refreshing to have customer service like this!!! In my opinion easily the best deck company in the city.

THE WORK WAS COMPLETED IN 2 DAYS FROM START TO FINISH. THE CREW WAS CONSCIENTIOUS, ATTENTIVE TO DETAIL, AND SHOWED UP ON TIME WHEN THEY SAID THEY WOULD. WHEN THE CUSTOM DECK COMPANY COMPLETED THE PROJECT THE AREA WAS CLEANED AND THE DECK WAS READY TO BE ENJOYED. WORKING WITH THE OWNER IS AS ALWAYS A PLEASURE. HE HAS COMPLETED PROJECTS FOR US AT TWO OF OR PREVIOUS HOMES, ALWAYS WITH A SMILE AND A SOLUTION TO THE TYPICAL CHALLENGES THAT ARISE DURING CONSTRUCTION. THANKS DANY!

After deciding on building a deck my husband and I contacted a few companies. We decided to go with The Custom Deck Company who we found here on Homestars. Dany designed a beautiful deck for us that fit exactly what we told him we were looking for. We had a couple other designs from other companies, but his was the best and his pricing was very good. Matt and Pavlo installed the deck for us and they did a great job. Matt definately takes pride in his work, he takes his time to make sure every piece is cut and placed perfectly right. He is friendly, professional, detail oriented and very good at what he does. The job turned out better than we expected, they built us a solid and gorgeous deck. We feel lucky to have had our deck built by them.

This the second deck Dany and Custom Deck have done for us in the past three years. Dany's workers are excellent in taking responsibility for the job, suggesting a custom design that fits the property and satisfies our expectations, resolving problems and leaving us worry-free, knowing that we will be satisfied with the final outcome. They got the job done in 2.5 days. They are easy to work with, but stay out of their way once they get started, because they work fast and efficiently as a team and clean-up after themselves once the job is done. I have no hesitation in recommending Dany and his team.
