I was moving from a one-bedroom apt to a two-bedroom apt 6 blocks away. When I called around for quotes this company was so much lower than everyone else's I was a little suspicious. The first question I asked was did they have a minimum time limit? (A few other companies had quoted 4 hours minimum). Since I only had the contents of a small one-bedroom apt I knew it wouldn't take 4 hours to move so I didn't want to pay more than I had to. The gentleman on the phone said no, they only charge for the time they were there. I decided to go for it. Oh boy do I really wish I had recorded that conversation! When the movers arrived, the first thing on the contract I had to sign before they began was that there was a 4 hour minimum. I immediately called the dispatcher and explained what I was told when I made the appointment. He said that was ridiculous, but lowered it to three hours for me. There were other charges on the contract that I was not told about - $1 per step per mover, $20 charge for any item weighing over a certain weight, the movers were in no way responsible for any packing or protecting of items during the entire move, etc. I also had to give the driver a $200 cash deposit before they would lift a finger.
After my stuff was loaded onto the truck, the driver called his dispatch to get the final bill. I wondered how that was possible since we hadn't left the property yet. The bill was ridiculously padded. They charged me $110 travel time since I was out of the GTA! Once again I called dispatch back and argued that Brampton is part of the GTA, and besides that what travel time were they talking about? I was moving 6 blocks away. Not to mention the dispatch number posted on their website listed it as a Mississauga number, so it was $110 from Mississauga to Brampton? Come on! The dispatcher at this point was getting beligerent and argued that according to his paperwork Brampton was NOT part of the GTA. I was also getting charged "dispatch fees" for which they could not give me a sufficient explanation. The drivers refused to begin the move until I had paid the entire sum in full. Cash only of course.
At this point I had no choice but to pay and get the whole thing over with as fast as possible, as for all intents and purposes they were holding my stuff hostage. Needless to say it was a very frustrating and expensive moving day! I can only hope others will read this review and learn from my experience. Like they say, if something seems to good to be true, it usually is!
