Unprofessional, doesn't take responsibility, very disappointing

So disappointing and would not recommend him for any large projects or high quality projects.
I hired Lucas as our general contractor for a big renovation we were doing for our Toronto home. I quickly learned that a lot of his experience comes from flipping homes and his a painter by trade, using base quality fixtures and the big one, not dealing with home owners directly. Some of his trades were good and responsive, the others (I would say majority of them) did the bare minimum as a job. We had a plumber who miss-measured where to place fixtures, Lucas's framers (who did a half job at properly securing 2x4s and beams) His electricians were okay, not too many problems but not the best.

There were some things in which he was at fault but as he conducts himself, would never take responsibility for the mistakes. This is such a terrible business model and way to run a company where its based on referrals.
Him and his framing company miss-measured our windows. Now, we are out $900 as we have to re-order windows. He, of course, said its not his fault and probably the person who we ordered the windows from. BUT we sent HIS measurements to the window company so how would they mess up?

Anyways, we luckily have met an incredible contractor who is nothing but professional and basically saved our home and renovation from the mistakes Lucas made.

As a first time homeowner and someone who has put all their money towards their home, please do your research when hiring your contractor. I would highly recommend not going with Lucas if its a big project to over see, where you demand quality and accuracy in your build.

Good luck!

Company Response

Warren was referred to me from a repeat client of 10 years. The home he asked to help renovate the ground floor and 2nd floor in phases did not belong to him; rather his girlfriends father.
I ensured that I received written permission form the landlord before touching anything in Warrens rental. I refered warren to an architect and design shop to render the drawings needed to petition the city for permits and work approval.
Warren dealt with the drawing company directly and paid them directly. I submitted Warren measurements for ground floor and second floor windows because that was the scope. Unfortunately he made an honest mistake and placed an order for basement windows off the drawings which clearly indicate not to use window measurements for PO's.
I explained to Warren that if he could provide me with an email or text of any basement window measurement that I provided him with; I would be happy to pay for his windows. The basement was not in our scope nor could the tenant provide any emails verifying his claim.
All the structure, plumbing, HVAC,and Electrical work was permitted and inspected by ESA/ the city of Toronto and PASSED.
Let me say this again, each respective authority PASSED all the work that my team installed. This can be verified at the city of toronto. Claiming that our work was sub par and inadequate doesnt tell the truth as all the permits were CLOSED after inspection.
I recognize that Warren as a tenant was upset because he ordered basement windows of drawings he shoudnt of.
However this is not excuse to speak poorly about the work that was done to code.

I do agree with Warren that each home owner should investigate who they hire. Ensure they have insurance/WSIB and lots or positive reviews.
Although I am upset that the tenant ultimately was unhappy, the error(order) was not made by us. This is our first poor review out of over 100 online review from various sites.
