As the warm weather was drawing to a close, I tried to light the gas heater in my garage. I could get the pilot to light but the main burner wouldnt light. The heater was installed over 20 years ago. I got the instructions and found that really all I could do was be sure it was clean which I did. It still wouldnt light. I realized after numerous attempts that I couldnt light the main burner so I went online and found that Protech sold and installed the same heater that I had. I called that afternoon and was asked to email them with my issue. I did that and that evening I got a reply email from Sterling saying they could be out around noon the day after next. He said the visit would cost $175 and they would call me an hour before arriving. I got the call an hour before Sterlings arrival. Sterling was great. He tested things and determined the main valve (contains the on / off / pilot switch) was the issue. He said there were magnets in there and they opened enough to let the gas through and there was enough space to light a pilot light but not enough to light the main burner. He said he had another one with him, he didnt know what it cost, could find out Monday but that I needed it. I said to go ahead and put it in. He also showed me the control sensor for the fan and that it was destroyed and hed never seen anything like it (that was great because the fan had been shorting out and not working). He had a newer one intended for a more powerful unit but he would try it. He did and got it to work and put all of the wiring in a heat resistant sleeve. He also went outside and saw the outside vent was bent and said it looked like it had been hit by a car so he bent it as straight as he could (maybe it happened when our neighbours house was being built 5 years ago). He finished up and everything works great. The final total bill was $518. I was more than satisfied with everything. Ill call Protech again.
