Thank you for sharing your experience with other homeowners. Galvanized and lead pipes cause many problems like leaks on joints, low water pressure, contaminated water etc. Those pipes are 60+ years old and no wonder it is an issue. New copper and PEX are used for replacement. In your case, underground main water service pipe was replaced with 3/4" copper in order to keep current ground wire connected to it and, therefore, not violating electrical codes.
