Front Garden Landscaping

Ray did an amazing job on our front perrenial garden (with stone path and armour stones). He has an artful eye and had some great ideas that were perfectly executed. He was extremely accomodating, and went above and beyond. I did a lot of research and contacted many landscapers, and could not be happier I decided to go with Ray. He does high quality work and for less than anyone else. Highly Recommend!!!

Artful sensisitve listening matching knowledgeable.. where art and science meet in glory where the tree and plant know how to appear to elevate your dignity as home owner.. This is who you go to.

This was inexpensive high in quality and by comparison other companies were blah boring and transactional. Ray is Ray Ray Monet Ray... This is 6th generation artistry of Dutch Ontarian antiquity and talent.. innate. Ray inspires teaches./. a genuine experience service and high art...He knows the magic and personality of each plant how it lives where and how.. temperate, textural, contextual... high art. What he did for us was inexpensive based on the output design, placement quality and he wants you to be happy.. this is an artist. I will find a pic or two soon enough and will post.

Garden stone wall

Ray did a nice artistic job of building a dry stone wall for our front yard. He suggested ideas for the design, the type of stone, and the landscaping in and around it, so that it looks in keeping with our house but also unique. For a while, I became a bit obsessed with checking out all the stone walls in the neighbourhood, and I'm pretty sure ours is the best-looking!

I would make two small suggestions for improvement -- (1) a little more clarity from Ray in terms of exactly when work will be happening and what his schedule is, and (2) remember to ask before playing music outdoors. (In both cases, he was very accommodating to our requests, but it's always nicer if a contractor takes the initiative to explain/ask first.)

Company Response

It was nice working with you and I am glad that you had faith and trust in me. I'm sorry about the music playing outdoors, my employees work better with music. Next time, I will make sure to ask permission so that nobody is disturbed.

social good references good design good team and approach, but poor follow up.. have to phone over 100 times to fix the small problems. once they get their money they are out of there.. my wife and i have 3 homes and she lives in the toronto locale where the design was done. beautiful stuff but you could not get away with this in nyc, and not follow up.

Company Response

The first crew was not sufficient to finish the job properly and that's why I hired another crew to redo and correct everything that's why it took time to finish the project. I did finish the job and it turned very good.

Front garden design & planting

Recommended by a trusted contractor, Ray Johannes was hired by us to re-configure a front walkway and plant a garden. The focalpoint of the garden (installed fall 2006) was a 15' weeping nootka pine. Weighing over 1 tonne, the landscaper dropped it 3 times on its rootball. When questioned about this, he said it would be fine. The next spring it was showing signs of distress and so were we because the landscaper was not returning calls or answering e.mails. Finally half way through the summer he showed up and transplanted a neighbour's unwanted 12' weeping cedar. This took better than 7 days and much of this time the root ball lay exposed to the elements and not once did he return to cover the roots or supply water. Ray said this was a hearty tree and the heat and other conditions would nopt harm it. This tree dies on us this spring and when we pressed again for a replacement, all we got was a 5' weeping cedar and now no returned calls or emails.

Company Response

1. It was raining hard and the chain accidentally slipped off the Bobcat only once not 3 times. The 15' weeping nootka pine tree did not survive but was replaced.

2. The reason for the time delay I was fully booked with a big project at that time. As for the weeping cedar tree we had to dig manually and even had to use car jacks to dig out.

3. As for the 5' weeping cedar tree, I also purchased smaller trees and shrubs to accommodate the gaps in between to make it look aesthetically more appealing.
