Replace a disconnect panel

We were having problems with flickering lights which seemed to get worse by the day. We called 311 and they inspected the outside connection. After looking outside and inside the house they told us that the problem was a damaged fuse inside the disconnect panel. They proceeded to shut off the electricity. It was December and we were in an emergency situation.

After a high quote from one electrical company, we got a more favourable one from Mario.
What impressed us was the speed with which he worked to help us. The day he gave us the quote he hunted down a disconnect panel that would work with the main panel and he organized a timely Certificate of Inspection. Both were necessary before he could install the new panel.

The very next day the new panel was installed and we finally had heat and water. Mario went that extra mile for us and we recommend him without reserve.

Electrical Panel Upgrade & other

I chose Mario primarily because I was impressed by his response to Marcello's zero rated review. In addition, having obtained three estimates from three licenced electricians, I found Mario to be the most knowledgeable on what needs to be done.

The quality of workmanship was fantastic & when the Inspector found some issues with the existing 21-year-old circuits, Mario fixed those circuits as well, in order to conform to the existing electrical codes.

Although I only mention Mario here, there were two qualified electricians working together on the panel change the entire time.

I will definitely use ProWest again for any future electrical projects.

Any advice to offer fellow homeowners facing a similar project?
Educate yourself about the electrical code requirements & costs prior to getting started, and get at least three estimates. Ask questions from each service provider and compare notes. If an estimate sounds too cheap, there is always a reason for it and you will eventually pay for it down the road.

Upgrade A/C wiring, install light fixtures.

We were very satisfied with the work Mario performed in our home. He is evidently a very knowledgeable electrician, and we felt assured that everything is done to code. We had a few electrical issues to sort out, with the main problem being the A/C wiring. It was not up to par to handle our large unit. The quality of the materials and the neat installation impressed me. I wish Mario had done the wiring for my house when it was built! I would definitely use him again in the future. We are planning to finish our basement next year, and he'll be the first person I contact. Thank you Mario!

new ground, fix potlights, replace lighting, run new wires from panel

Mario is a very knowledgeable and professional electrician. Everything he does is to code and done very well. Several years ago, Mario replaced our electrical panel and virtually every contractor and engineer we've had come through since has commented on how well the electrical was done.
Most recently, we needed new wiring done as part of a renovation and Mario was again very thorough, even pointing out a leaky pipe in the basement to the onsite plumber which was greatly appreciated.
I would not hesitate to recommend Mario for his excellent work, depth of experience, caring about getting the job done right and very personable demeanor.

200amp service upgrade + trouble shoot faulty wiring/circuit

Mario was great. He arranged all permits, ESA approval, Toronto Hydro visits, etc.
The panel upgrade work was done in one day even if they encountered quite a few difficulties (such as Toronto Hydro not coming on time, unsafe wiring, etc). They had to work in a very tight closet as this is an old house and stayed until the work was done, every breaker market properly, and we had power again.
The faulty wiring was a headache as it was very difficult to find were the problem was inside the walls/ceilings, but they come back many times to test, retest and identify were the problem was all within the original quote. All in all Mario is an honest and committed professional and ensures you satisfied with his work. When I had a misunderstanding and some difficulties with his helper trying to identify the faulty wiring, Mario responded immediately by coming himself to finish the work.

Baseboard Heater installation

I used ProWest Electric, Inc. for the installation of a baseboard heater within my tenant unit. I have used ProWest in the past and plan to use them again in the future. They responded to my inquiry quickly and arranged a time that worked for both the tenant and myself to see the job done. It was quick, clean and on budget.

Thanks Mario for a job well done!

Company Response

Richard’s name is Marcello.
On Nov.6/11 he called me to price a service upgrade to 200 Amp. We met in front of his triplex on Major St. in Toronto. He agreed to our price and conditions (payment due at job completion). He instructed us to start after 8:30 am
because the electrical panel was in the basement bedroom apartment, so we wouldn’t disturb the tenants before they left.
I understood and agreed completely. We started and finished. The inspector came and passed the job and gave me authorization
to reconnect to street Hydro feeds. Mr. Marcello came afterwards. We explained to him that we found some problems to
existing wiring to stove was Romex 14/3 not 8/3. We can only install a 15 amp breaker per Ontario Electric Safety Code. In
order for the stove to work properly it had to be rewired with Romex 8/3. He understood and we gave him the price for repair.
After a minute he came to me and said if you do get paid for the 200Amp. Service, you must do the repair for free. I didn't
Agree to this. He said you are not smart because, it will cost more to collect from me, than installation of new stove wire.
I was very surprised and upset with that conversation, I told him "we can't do it for free, labour and material cost money"

He said " Than I will not pay you for the 200A service, repair must be done for free, try to collect from me, it will take a long time.
I told my staff that Mr Marcello had no intentions of paying us, from the get-go. This is not an honest man.
