We had a large move (because of how much "stuff" we had, but a very short distance (4 blocks)

We shopped around for a mover as we were trying to be dilegnet to reduce any damage as result of the move. We went with Action Movers (AM) because of their rate. In hind site we would have gone with our other choice. AM didn't keep to their word on moving fragile items. We had many broken items, including damaged art work because they removed the plastic wrapping before they came into the house. Our granite table top was broken due to oversight in packing up and moving into truck. They attempted this with 2 people (not nearly enough) and it wasn't protected as it should have been. The guy who fell off the narrow plank leading up to the truck was extremely lucky as the granite fell very near his head! After a long day of unloading, the fellow with the paperwork asked me to sign the bottom, very foolishly I did. We should not have until all the damage was taken care of but he said, "Don't worry, everything will be fine. We'll look after this" Well, it wasn't fine. To get started on the claim there was huge disagreement with their person in charge because I signed the form. On top of all this there was a $450 deductible (they call it admin charge) for the replacement/repairs. We had too much going on and the claim was getting further delayed and we never did get any settlement as we were sure they would not be cooperative so we have been out a granite table and have damaged frames to some expensive artwork.
It made for a total inconvenience and a huge headache we didn't need as we had to deal with the aftermath of a move along with family health issues. Go with the pros...Action Movers are not!
** Movers: trying to justify our bad experience we had. Everything with this company was difficult. We tried to resolve but they were uncooperative and by the time we got to the insurance settlement it was into the next year and we pretty much wrote it off and they likely would have told us it was past the time we had to settle. For the record, we hired 3 movers AND they did NOT tell us we had to crate granite until they were are our house. The movers also told us it was ok as is when they were moving it.

Approximate cost of services:
$3,500.00

Company Response

At Action Movers, we always appreciate any review, negative or positive. In the case of this customer, readers need to understand that this occured over a year ago. When booked, we were advised of a marble table and offered 3 movers. Only 2 were hired and as it states on our terms and conditions, marble tables do need to be crated or in solid packaging. Action Movers accepts responsibility for our mover slipping on the ramp and the table top breaking. We offered several solutions but nothing was good enough. We as a company have one of the highest insurance policies to help resolve matters quickly. As consumer choice award winners for "best moving company" we resolve situations in a timely manner, in this case, the customer was never satisfied and never contacted us to come to a settlement.

What could this company do to improve their services?
Any advice to offer fellow homeowners facing a similar project?
