The lesson learned: a warranty only has value if the vendor is willing to stand behind it.
Recently I tried to have our 1 year old Maytag washing machine (still under warrantee) serviced by Sears Canada. My experience can be summarized as follows:
- Made (and confirmed) two appointments with Sears to have our machine repaired. On both occasions, the technician was a no show.
- On the third appointment, the technician spent 10 minutes reading the dryer’s manual.
- According to Maytag: Sears has a legally binding contract with Maytag, whereby, ONLY Sears can service the washing machine.
- After 2 weeks and 6 hours (no joke) on the phone, I ended up having to pay someone out of my own pocket to fix the problem
It is unlikely that I will purchase a SEARS product ever again.
- Approximate cost of services:
- $1,600.00
