Thermostat installation

I have never written a bad review but my experience with Metropolitan Heating and Cooling was so bad I felt compelled to write. It was one of my worst experiences with a contractor.

I hired them to install a WIFI thermostat. They were responsive and came quickly to do the job. The installer who did the job installed it in such a way that I cannot have a fully functioning unit. I have called the company SIX times to get him to either fix it or replace it. The installer claims to have called but I have not received any calls, no messages on voicemail..NOTHING. I simply do not believe them.

I spoke with the manager at length. He tells me explain how the installer knew I wouldn't get full function from my thermostat but installed it anyway! Everyone seems to have known I would not have full functioning but never thought to tell me!

The manager tells me how they do not make their money doing thermostat installation. He reveals his business strategy of "up-selling" customers furnaces and various products.

I tried to explain to him that this might serve HIM well but has he considered the customer experience? My experience is that I've hired them to do a job. They didn't do it properly and they are not following up.

Approximate cost of services:
$133.00

Company Response

It is not our usual policy to install equipment supplied by a customer but made an exception "regrettably" in this case.
This customer purchased her own Wifi thermostat from Home Depot and arranged for Metropolitan to install. The homeowner was not home at the scheduled time of appointment but Technician was admitted by the Housekeeper/Nanny. He installed the thermostat to the existing 4 wire control wiring in the wall (new thermostat required 5 wires for full function) the continuous fan function was eliminated as a result. Our Technician advised the Housekeeper/Nanny as this. The Customer called the office to complain about the loss of continuous fan function. We advised her an after market adaptive control could be installed for approximately $200 + labour to make her thermostat on 4 wires work or its was strongly suggested she return her thermostat to Home Depot and purchase a Nest thermostat from Home Depot which works on 4 wires. We would then come install and program the Nest thermostat.
At no time did we try to up sell, we charged our 1 hour minimum rate for the service call.
Calling Metropolitan 6 times to fix or replace the thermostat is simply not true. Recommendations were made with solutions which customer did not follow up on with Metropolitan.
